Idle and Timing problems

Idle and Timing problems
I swapped in a d16y7 from a 2000 civic into my 1997 civic. When i first started it the idle would bounce from 1500 to 2500, so i took off the IACV and cleaned her and the idle is fine. Problem is that now on cold start up it doesnt rev higher it just sits at 1000.
Another problem im having is timing. I have a timing gun and when i go to line up to the white mark (im assuming i use the white mark on the crank?) the car runs like *** and has no low end and the distributor is turned away from the firewall. Now my question is do you have to line it up to the lines? I checked the timing on my sisters civic and its way off to the left of the three red marks. Right now its lined up to the middle red mark and seems to be running fine.
Thanks!

Okay you line up the white mark (0BTDC) IF YOU HAVE A DIGITAL TIMING GUN. So you set the gun to 16degrees then line it up with the white mark on the crank.
If you dont have a digi. gun. Then your gun is set at zero, So you have to set the motor to read 16deg. on the crank (which is between the red and green mark on the crank) i believe its a two small white lines too. The 0BTDC white line is about an inch or two away from all the other marks and is more noticeable.
Hope you understood that. If not, ill try to explain it better. lol.

get your timming strait first, and if your Idle is too high still you may just need to set it properly. normally this is something you should never have to touch, but you did a swap and that could be the difference.

possibly, I've no experience with that combo, but if you set the base timming right then you should be fine. Are you bridging the jumper cable sticking out of your ecu to set your timming?
