Honda A/B/B20/C/D/E/F... Series

The F22 non vtec is the same engine Bisi runs in his Insight, He runs 9.45" all motor in the 1/4.....I would'nt exactly call that slow.
#24
you can make any motor fast with the right amount of money..
#25
The F series is a bit of a black sheep. Everyone thinks of them as slow pigs and they are in stock N/A form. But as T-Mack mentioned, these big block SOHC engines can put down some serious power N/A and the OE iron sleeves can handle a lot of boost.
#26
No, it is not. lol
But i was quoted for a
K20A
15,000 Miles
Motor
Transmission 6SPD LSD Manual
Engine Wiring Harness
All required Cables
ECU
Distributor
Throttle Body
Injectors
Fuel Rail
Intake Manifold
Exhaust Manifold
Alternator
A/C
Power Steering Pump
Most Brackets and Sensors
Intermediate Mid Shaft
$5,695
And obvously i will do small changes before i put the motor in.. timing belt, water pump, fly wheel, clutch.. etc etc.. & i know that will cost more than $6000.. but thats a given if you want performance, just like u said.
Well i will be doing the swap myself, i have all the equipment.. tuning might be an issue b/c ive never tuned before..
This is just gonna be a daily driver, no desire to race.. ive gotten my fair share of license suspensions & tickets.. & now with all these new regulations about loosing your car.. bahh not worth racing, just enjoyment.
& yes i totally agree that an engine won't die for any reason, if you keep the maintenance done properly.. which i intend on doing.. Thats why im curious to know that IF that ever happens i have my research done.
well Nova.. i have a 95 civic si coupe.. i just hit 200,000 Kilometers.. even if i was to boost this motor, i dont think it would be able to last maybe a few months or so?.
Ive never built a motor from scratch so im not sure about its durability, or what exactly is done..
Dont get me wrong ive driven a B16.. a B16 w/turbo.. & a B18... So i know what they are capable of.. then again tuning differs.... i guess im too used to the Big Blocks lol..
Stupid question but what does FI stand for?? lost me on that one..
& yes szuberi that looks pretty dirtyyyy.. those are in the new civics right??

Of course, the rules on the road is getting tighter but as long as you and I drive according to the rules, the car does not matter IMO. Now if you have a certain power goal but have no wish for legal racing, I think that $6000 dollar is simply wasted. You are satisfying your own needs for power, but when are you going to use it? The most obvious place is at traffic light take off, followed by highway passing. There is simply no other places to utilize the horsepower legally on the road other than these two incidents, and that's for a very short amount of time - because the more horsepower you have, the sooner you get to the speed limit.
There is the bragging factor, but to me, that is pointless. Then again, alot of things we do to our cars are pointless - but you must be able to use it daily or else, it is no different than buying a Ferrari and store it for 10 months and drive it 3 times in a year.
I am not trying to talk you out of upgrading the horsepower, but I wish you can spend the money wisely and find a way to utilize that money and get the most out of it.

making a true 200whp out of a 1.8L motor isn't nearly as simple as everybody thinks. to the op, most modded b20v's make more power than untuned k's, so i find it a littly confusing when u say b20v isn't fast enough. and, a k swap is not gonna cost $6K. if its butchered, then yes. if u plan on doing any mods (good header, intake, exhaust and kpro) along with a complete and clean install, say hello to $10k.... at the very least. with that being said, an f.i. application is the best option for people that are simply power hungry

i agree with Mugen Power.
To do a k20 swap and do it right, it'll cost a pretty penny. After you include installation and all of the custom parts you'll need, you'll slowly realize that the 190whp you got out of your k-swap wasn't worth the money you spent.
For $5000 you can turbo your car and make 300whp easily on a pretty simple setup. But for $5000 you'll be getting top of the line parts that i wouldn't consider a simple setup.

especially if you have an ek and want to do it with the ekk2 mounts
#35
then you'll spend another $1200+ on hondata k-pro and a bunch on tuning then get decent numbers, after you spent a bunch on the RBC intake manifold, a nice header, an intake, etc etc. All this after spending $$$$$ on the swap.

while the cost of a properly done k swap is plain rediculous (10k as some of u correctly estimated), I still believe if someone has the money, then why not? The k is more resilient and potent than any b swap. For sure putting in the same amount of money, u can have a much faster b setup but if u understand what nova dust said above, there is a law of diminishing return. 'better' should not mean faster only.
There is a lot of good feedback in this thread which u should use to oversee ur options that fit ur budget.

Hold on hold on, not to step on anyones toes.. i do not mean insult anyone with a b20 or whatnot.. im only saying its slow cause i drove a 454 big block NA... one word.. MONSTER!... lol and yes i know i shouldnt compare but still.. that feeling is still in my bones..
fair enough, i didnt know that was possible.. im assuming alot of mods were done?
And which F series are they using..
F22A?
F22B1?
F22Z2?
Those are some serious motors, but im assuming from what you said a B18 is a better buy in that case.
yeah i know what you mean, well that sounds more justifiable.
lolol ok ok i get what your saying Nova.. point taken.. Thanks
well said..
im liking the feedback from all of you guys...
@ least now i know what i gotta do when choosing a worthy series..
Thanks
And after several days of thought...and also feedback and reading posts from you guys..
i have decided to turbo my car..

Motor might be old, but a proper rebuilt will be done regardless if you are going to turbo charge it, at least that's what I would do. Again, there are many ways to make power, and anything is possible for as long as you have a deep pocket.
