Rusted Bumper Bolts

Today Me and my buddy Mike where going to do my front bumper mesh grill. We had everything read and started to take the bumper off. But those 5 bolts under the hood where rusted to **** and didn't want to come out. We could only get one of them out.

How do I get these things out of there and where can I get new ones?

Try an impact drill. Or a manual impact kit. Just saw one at Crappy TRire today for $35. Said it removes rusted in screws.

Try liquid wrench in the spray can. Spray a lot and let it soak for a long while. If this doesn't work, then you will need to get a set of screw extracters. Drill a hole in the centre of the bolt so you can get the extracter far enough in. Do not drill too large as the screws for these are 5 or 6 mm in diameter. If this doesn't work you'll need to get somebody a little more experienced or if you feel confident enough, drill out the old bolts and re tap the holes. You can easily do it if you have the right tools!

I used a Dremel.....I cut a slit/groove on the top of the screw, then I used a flat head screwdriver.....I also used the Liquid Wrench stuff too.

rusted screw

ive had that b4 on a 92, there was a strip of metal between the bumper and the five screws on top (if these are the rusted screws u r referring to) the metal strip was so rusty that i was able to tear it off and used a visegrip on the head of the screws. it worked.

I was going to suggest using vise grips, but some people are worried about messing up their paint and stuff trying to do that! It is definately worth the try if you don't care all that much about damaging anything! Good call!

make sure your using the "correct" philips head... it should be ver large and does not have a point at the end... Fits really tight and will not mess up the screw... Also pour coca cola onto the screw and let it sit for 5 minutes... It will eat away at the rust and help losen the screw...
