Summer upgrade ideas for my civic

It will fit, but you will rub with weight in the car on bumps. Also if you take U turns quicker it will rub a bit also. I remembered just for year hell of it I tried 205/55r16 and after I rubbed out, the car was sitting on the fenders. If you could get 195/50r16 they should (don't quote me on this) tuck in the back. Again, that depends on the offset of the rim.
thanks man.. I will look into that.
I had no idea these tires were so expensive.

LOL, price out a set of toyot RA1's, even in a 15" size... Thats what we use on our MR2 in autocross, and we usually go through a set per season. The pric may have come down on them recently, but they were very expensive when they briefly stopped making them a year or so back. You pay a price to go fast.
But yeah, tires are expensive. Generally, the bigger the rim, the more expensive the tire. Another reason I like to stick with smaller 15" rims for the street, the tires are much cheaper.
yep, makes daily driving and the odd track day much more enjoyable.

hey i got a quick question for you or any other member. I just went to tire 23. As it turns out 205 40 r16 are no the right size for my civic, they highly recomend me to put 205 45 r16. I just want to change two tires so question is , how much of a difference would i see if i decide to put 205 45 r16 in the front and 205 40 r16s in the back. I know the car in the front will be a little be higher than the back but would it be too noticeble??? opinions?

i took my car there and they say 205 40 r 16s are no the right size for my car and that the speedometer will be off and the abs will not work.
Thats the reason i didnt buy the tires yet, i can not afford 4 tires ( i still have to buy 2 more gfor my mazda 3) .
I m confused now , the experts are tire shop recomend me to go with 205 45 r16s but if i do it the rear will be 205 50r16s.
MPR seems to be the expert on this so hopefully he can help me clariy this

thats weird because then it would sit a bit higher on the fronts. if your going to put 205/45/16s on the front, you might as well put them all the way around. plus with 205/45r16's, your speedo will only be off by 0.86%

yea i m confused too now!!... How much higer would it sit???

Tire size calculator
Go to that site. Input your tire and rims sizes (stock and current sizes)... On that website it shows you just below the wheel diagram how far your speedometer will be off (can change the units from mph to kph is you want). You want to get it as close to the original diameter as possible. A difference of less than 1.5% is acceptable, imo.
I believe the stock tire size is 185/65R14 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). If so, that tire shop is right and you need 205/45R16's instead of 205/40R16's for your speedometer to be correct. However, what ensures your abs will work properly is having all 4 tires the same size. The abs system looks at the wheel speeds of all 4 tires, in relation to eachother (looks to see if all 4 wheels are spinning relatively the same speed within a certain percentage, usually). If it sees the rear wheels spinning slighly faster, it may cause it to kick-in pre-maturely. However, the difference in wheel speed from a 205/45R16 to a 205/40R16 may not be enough to cause an issue. Whether it is or not, I don't know.
Visually, you will not notice a difference as the sidewall will only be ~5ish mm higher.
If you can only buy 2 tires, I'd just keep them all the same size. If you are really concerned about your speedometer being 100% accurate, go with the 205/45R16's, but with doing so, there is no guarantee the abs system will work properly.

great info !!!.. I think i may actually go with 205 45 r16s. The rear tires are going to need to be change next season , so I may as well go with the right ones. My main concern was the difference in sides, visual difference but for what you guys are telling , the difference is minimal and i wont be able to see it visually
