Maxima is a nice car, and really smooth, but it all comes down to gas. and i am planning on doing a lot of driving since ill do aprox 40km just for school everyday. thanks a lot guys.

ok if you only have a 5000 $ budget then def get a civic. For 5 grand you can prob get a 2000 honda civic se ( the one i have) with decent kms ( expect between 130- 150) . However this is a great reliable car , plus you can always upgrade the car for a better engine once you have more money ( if you really want to because you won need a new engine) . The car looks decent

here is a pic of my car , o paid 6500 two years ago ( 2000 civic se) with 140 ( when i bought it).
keep in mind the car came looking like this so i didnt do anything to it ( just upgraded the sound system)

btw this car is great on gas , i get around 700 km on higway and 450 to 600 in city

i had it for two years and it took some serious abuse , i actually just put 40 000 km last year , i drive to niagara everyweek , plus two trips to montreal and 1 to ottawa

i drive this car everywhere , and i never really had a problem , the only problems i get are due to the car being lowered which is my fault . However i keep synthetic oil every 3000 km ( and thats about it)

your car looks sickk. btw correct me if im wrong, SE is non vtec engine at 106hp right? because i was thinking about EX [i think these are vtec] @128hp
and i already have a ram intake [my bud just gave it to me..]

oh, btw another question i had--> how much are highflow mufflers [loud ones but with silencer] in a store around here, not ebay tho. since my brother bought muffler of ebay...n it was just a straight pipe. so it would be a little problem to pass emissions. and just to make sure, you can pass emissions with those highflow mufflers right?

my SiR hatch with k20 is quiet compared to the 95 cx i had, or the 93 del sol i had, or the 96 ek turbo i had. less wind noise, car feels more solid.

they made the SiR's between 2002-2005. mint car. but, depends what you wanna spend, they go for 12k and up.

cant go wrong with a honda. parts are cheap and widely avail. as are full motors, etc

edit: why would you want a high flow muffler with silencer?

that's just rice. you wont gain MAD HP! with it like people think...

i've heard so many people over the years "i did my exhaust, that should give me another 10hp!" then everyone is like "full exhaust? 3" mandrel?" "no, just the muffler"...

put your cash into upgrades that improve the reliability of your car or it's performance.

a muffler cannon on a honda with nothing else done, is a waste of money and is a waste other than a good laugh.

for every problem there's a solution

wind noise? weatherstripping
road noise? dynamat/brown bread
engine too loud? how the **** is that a problem!

Just a comment, for Canadian EK EX models, there was no VTEC motor. If you want a Canadian spec Civic with VTEC, it would have to be an Si or SiR coupe. If you want 4 doors for insurance purposes, your only choice is an EL. They all had VTEC. If fuel economy is your prime concern, get a non-VTEC Civic and do a swap after you save up some money in the future.
I am assumnig you are getting a manual but if you are considering an auto, there really is no point with the VTEC motor, you would have to floor the throttle all the time to notice the difference.
As mentioned before, the newest EK is 8 years old so, don't expect luxury car quietness. I am sure any stock EK would be quieter than your brother's EG.
Just my $0.02
