Engine help.. Swaps? auto to manual? Suggestions wanted!!
I know alot of you will say you should just sell what you got and get a manual. saves alot of trouble i know. But i already have a Civic with an emaculate body no rust and great paint and everything else. I ran into a problem and Blew the Tranny (Automatic) and the motor leaks oil even after a new oil pan and gasket.. it has 2xx xxx Kms anyways. So if i gotta spend money on a over hawl why not spend some extra and put in a B16 or better and make it a manual.
Sorry forgot to add the important facts.
Currently own a 97 Civic coupe Dx (d16y7 auto) ya i know its slow but it was a steal!
Willing to go up too 2500 bucks depending on the set up ( no one wants to blow there hard earned $$ And yes i sure do know how to Turn a wrench but dont have the time or 2nd car.
Any Suggestions on what i should do and who i should go too who wont try to ripp me blind! At the same time wont be too expensive?
Ive also thought of swaping in a d16y8 but i will run into vtec wiring stuff and Iac stuff and whatever else i dont know about
I'm open to any suggestions or any help.
Thanks Alot!!!
Jules.

Probably the BEST thread for you to read
And you dont need a 2nd car to do this kind of job. If you have all the parts it shouldnt take longer than a day.
I did an auto - manual swap on a saturday. Took a good day but it was good to go by evening

You can pick up B16s with trannies for $1200. Sometimes even cheaper
And say for example... Ive had qoutes of $1000 for full auto to manual swaps which included the trannies.
So that price range is possible

no matter how good a deal you get a quality b series will still wind up costing you ~$2000 for the complete engine. b trannies are also expensive.
just get a better d series, match the ECU, and get a cheap d series tranny then call it a day. you can probably find a lo mileage d16y8 for cheap from someone upgrading to a b series...
if you can snag a motor for $500 which is completely reasonable then the whole swap may not cost you much more than $1500, tranny and all necessary extras included.
not to mention it takes less time to install the engine since you already have the current d series in your car to take cues from and can still retain all your luxury accessories

I did my whole swap myself
Seriously... save yourself the money. Either go and buy a manual civic, or do your research and do the work yourself.
With my swap i spend a couple hours... went to the junk yard. found a good donor civic. with good clutch master cylinder. etc etc. just stripped it of all the hardlines and whatnot. Pedal Assembly. etc.
Not a single problem with any of the junkyard parts yet. obviously buy a new slave cylinder. they go for $30 at any parts place.
And i saved myself a ton of money by just doing it all myself.
