help-should i get civic?

hi, my brother has 93 civic lx..he dropped it on 15's and i love it but sometimes it feels like im driving a go-cart now im buying a car and i thought the best place to ask would be here....hows the 96-00 civics specially the EX models? do they have any more insulation..because in the 93lx the engine insulation is kinda bad...also the wind through the door/window n stuff like that? since i was thinking about a 99maxima cuz its nice and big..but a 3.0L engine with the gas prices going up..i might have some trouble with $$. so any suggestions?

I have a 96 si with no wind issues. You might want to look at the weather stripping and what the hell do you mean by the engine insulation is kinda bad?

He's running open headers, no wonder it's loud. Put a stock (or even aftermarket) exhaust system on it.

Should lower the noise considerably.

relative to what?
your questions don't make sense.
are you comparing it to the 92-95 civics, cause they're pretty much the same.

you seem to be comparing it to a civic that has no exhaust system. Your first thing to do is to sit in a car with a proper exhaust and see what it sounds like. The second is to go test drive a 96-00 civic and see from yourself.

how is someone supposed to answer this
"yes my 1997 is 3 db quieter than a 1994 civic at 110 km/h" ???

the stock engine is not loud at all unless you're revving at 7000rpm all day or you've swapped for a b series or done something to the exhaust system

first of all you are planning on getting an old car 96 to 2000 its almost 8 years old so don't expect the car to be quiet.

2
the civic has a loud engine compare to wv ,mazda, some gms , althought not extremely loud

3
the maxima is a v6 so the engine is smotheer than a civic , a civic is a 4 cylinder

4
the wind noise is very common in civics, actually it is the most common complaint civic users have , even the newer model civics have that complaint.

5
i have the 2000 model and its pretty nice , aside from the wind noise the car is very reliable and can take quite a beating.

6
the good think about civics is how easy is to fix it , how reliable they are , how many after market parts there are and how cheap is to change engines and modify your car to look good . Other brands do not have that

keep in mind that you are buying a used car that is getting close to 10 years old so it won be perfect

How much higher does the b series rev compared to the stock d15y7s?

thanks for the reply "rick10" the thing is, i have a small budget [aprox 5000]...also i dont have a full time job, so im looking into civics [also acura 1.6el] mostly for the gas...since come on, stock civic engines are amazing on gas compared to other cars. Maxima is a nice car, and really smooth, but it all comes down to gas. and i am planning on doing a lot of driving since ill do aprox 40km just for school everyday. thanks a lot guys.

I had a 98 maxima and it was more quiet then my 98 EK hatch now. I dont know about sedans but my
hatch has alot of road noise. The common one you stated is the wind noise, i think even the newer
civics have had this problem. I say just test drive one and see how you like it yourself. I drive with
my music up because i hate hearing the rattle in my car, i dont really mind tho, and it could be only my car.
On the other note about if you should get a civic or not, depends on you. I think you know all the basic stuff about a civic... gas, 1000+ aftermarket parts ect....

You want a car with less road noise, then buy a more luxurious car.
I had a Civic and Acura EL and they both had road noise, especially on the highway.
