2006 Si - high pitched noise on acceleration

Hi all,

I recently picked up a used 2006 Civic Si and noticed a high-pitched noise when the throttle is at 1/2 to 3/4 depressed. I took it by the dealership and they suggested the Exhaust Gasket needs to be replaced.

The estimate is roughly $247 CAD for the part + $100 CAD per hour for the labour. Does anyone know what part they are referring to and if it's worth going through the dealership for the repair?

Also does this even sound like a common problem to occur? The dealership stated it would not be covered under my Honda Plus Extended Warranty as it's a "wear and tear" item.

Lastly, any recommendations from people in the forum on where to go to get this fixed? I'm not feeling too comfortable with the dealership's quote that it may take several weeks to get the part in.

Thanks

I'd have to hear the noise in person to give a proper diagnosis.

If you pop the hood and get someone to rev the engine, can you pin point where exactly the noise is coming from?

Need a little more info then: "high pitch noise at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle"...

Haven't popped the engine yet, but it sounds like it's coming more so from the rear of the car than the front.

Are you thinking of mass air inflow tubes being punctured/rotten through?

No, but if you can better pin point where the noise is coming from and better describe the noise, the easier it'll be to help you find out what it is.

OP every part on the car is "Wear and Tear" haha.
just figured ill throw that out there, imo 06 shouldnt have problems with exhaust gaskets and stuff.
also as stated above try to find exactly or atleast general area where the sound is coming from.

Thanks, I took it for a spin this afternoon and it definitely is coming from mid-rearish area of the car.

Though now I'm a bit perplexed. If it really is just a gasket, why do they want to replace an entire manifold?

So they can make more money off you duh! Its called a stealership for a reason, they'll tell you your exhaust is loose and you need to replace the whole thing when all you need is a couple screws.

Research our affiliates, most of them are reasonable. I personally use HiVelocity, they're great guys, pm Chris_V2 or Zeeman.

Going by what you just said, it's not the exhaust manifold gasket, but an exhaust leak farther back in the system.

But again, without being able to see/hear it in person, it's hard to say exactly what it could be.

Where abouts do you live?

Went to Defcon and they have no idea what's making the noise? Any other suggestions?
