red light camera

Ok so on monday it was probably around 11 at night I was driving along kingston rd which is a 60 zone and happned to ever so slightly miss the light.

I knew i just missed it and since it was dark i saw the camera flash so i know im going to be getting something in the mail.

The thing is though....it was really rainy out that night and the reason i did not slam the brakes is a really didnt feel confident in stopping in time.
There were no other cars around at all if that makes any difference.

Would I have any chance of me explaining this in court? Or is there no fighting the camera?

Also if I do end up with it, do these tickets effect my insurance and how bad is this on my record.

Its just a fine, no demerit points.

Think you will have to go to court to fight the ticket. They are reviewed before they are mailed out, so there is a chance they will reject it. But slim.

the cam doesn't prove YOU were driving, just that your car ran the red light. If you lent your car out and someone else ran a red it wouldn't be fair to you to get points.

It is if you get stopped by a cop. With the camera, they cant prove who was driving so its just a fine to the registered owner of the car.

I'm pretty sure it is classified by insurance as a minor ticket.

So add roughly 20% to your current rate.

I've had a red light camera ticket before. It's just like a parking ticket. No points. It's not an HTA ticket but a municipal one. No insurance problems because it goes against the licence plate owner, not the driver.

The City of Toronto has a FAQ section

There might not have been a camera in the box. Just wait and see. They shuffle the cameras all over town, and I think it flashes regardless.
