Got hit in the parking lot, marker, help?
My father's car, parked and I was in the bank. So completely stationary.
The other guy's pick up truck, in the handicap spot, backed onto the hood and damaged it. He wasn't handicapped, and it was a company truck (landscaping company appearently).
He left a note with phone number, written message "I hit your hood, please call me *number*" I got his license plate.
We met up at the parking lot as he walked out from the bank. No trading of driver's license. He gave me his words on willing to pay for damage.
Question, in case he goes MIA or changes his mind and refuses to pay for the damage, will the information I have be helpful enough to go through it with my father's insurance company? Will my father's insurance company have enough info to track down the person based on the number and his truck's license plate?
Last but not least, will this affect my father's rate? Though I believe we are not at fault in this case.
Thanks guys

Indeed, he didn't run away and the first thing I said to him was "thank you very much for being honest." I was extermely polite and not angry at all. Well, frustrated of course as hitting a stationary car in a parking lot seems quite, well, stupid shall we say?
But whether he left a note because someone saw him is another story, but I would like to give him the benefit of doubt.
At the end of the day, my father just wants the hood the way it was, that's all we want. And he doesn't mind if he goes through insurance because it couldn't possibly be our fault.
For him to argue his way out of it is quite hard too as he lefe a note as well. That's proof right there.

Isn't not reporting an accident to your insurance company considered fraud?
With my insurance company, when an accident is determined to be 100% not your fault, the rates will not change. My company also has 1 at-fault free-bee.

imo dont report it to the insurance.
doesnt matter if its not your fault or at your fault
a claim is a claimed and its considered a claim against you.
what i mean by that is due to alot of fraudulent claims companies are keeping track of claims in total. so if you have say 2 or more not at fault claims in a year they can still drop you off their policy cuz your considered high risk.
so why waste a claim option?
i say stick with this guy and if he flops on you who cares just pop on a hood and drive away its only like 100 bucks. sure its not your fault and its not fair but atleast if something where to happen down the road this year you can actually put it on the claim and not have a previous claim over your head.
an accident doesnt have go thru insurance if both parties come to a conclusion that they are going to take it upon themselves and solve it out of insurance.
not reporting an accident over i believe 1000 to the collision reporting centre is fraud because it doesnt go into the mto records for them to put it on the vehicle's record. but that doesnt mean you have to go through insurance.
