Colour Change + Insurance

Anyone here change the colour of their car?

just had a couple questions...

in all the other threads people just said it shouldn't be a problem with insurance at all and that in ontario u just tell ur insurance company and it shouldn't affect ur rates @ all...

but i'm just wondering... how to you tell them? just phone them up and say
"oh, i woke up this morning and i just felt like painting my car another colour and now it's <xxx colour>"

or something more along the lines of

"i bought the car used, and i wasn't able to find one in the colour i wanted but i just got a great deal for a paintjob and decided to paint it in the colour i wanted"

or something else?

i would think they'd get suspicious and ask why since the average car owner wouldn't change their car's colour right? (might think possible accident or that u are modding)
or they totally don't care at all?

the one thing is... i'm kinda worried they will want to do an appraisal afterwards...

so... if u got experience.. how did you tell the company? just like above examples or something else? and which company? and did they want 2 do appraisal afterwards or anything else? or was it straight forward all you did was call and they said ok?

(i'm planning on some type of pearl/metallic white from a metallic silver btw)

They may ask you why you changed it. but all you have to say is you wanted a different colour.

*looks at my car*... god I hate blue.

Insurance companies don't care about straigh-forward colour changes. Still, if you've done some serious mural or graphics work as part of the repaint, you might want to let them know so they will cover it later if you get in collision.

You WILL have to inform the Ministry of Transportation.

Just go to any licensing office. They will issue a replacement ownership permit with the new colour on it.

If you fail to notify the Ministry, you could find yourself with a $120 ticket the next time you get pulled over and the cop notices the discrepancy between the colour on car and the colour on MoT record.
