too high wattage sub ?

hi all,i have a 2800w 15" power acoustic sub pushing it with 1000w sony amp it sounds like is not hitting as hard as it suppose to be(my 2 10's hit harder with the same amp),and when i turn it up my light dim even i with a 1 F cap. so what is wrong here? any suggestion? bigger amp or lower sub? why my light dim?

Why do you need a 15" sub to begin with? do you go to spl competitions? if not imo 2x12"s are more than enough. well either way, if you wanna keep the 15" be ready to shell out a LOT of money. Get a new amp, to match your sub. you said the 15" was 2800watts? is that rms or peak? most likely peak so find a matching amp. 2800watt peak power amp will make it kick. now 1F cap is not enough for your aplication. hell its not just that, you need a new, heavy duty alternator and a deep cycle battery. your lights dim because you are drawing too much power and the capacitor cannot keep up with it.
so you could just get a 12" or 2 12" subs and run the amp you got. would still be highly recommended that you atleast upgrade the battery and the alternator.

PS 2800watts? what are you thinking...wanna brake windows?

which sub is it? my cousin has the 15" PA ****, and its just ****ing ridiculous. 2600 watts, lol. Get a bigger amp (and a better one, sony is a piece). Make sure it will bridge down to half ohm (im assuming your sub is dual voice coil 2 ohms each) and make sure you have appropriate wiring (prob need 0 awg power and ground). That motha ****a is gonna pound your trunk right off of your car. My cousin has his in the back of his eg hatch (used to be mine ) and he broke the back glass, hahaha. Also make sure you have a proper sized box, their HUGE for those subs. When the sub isnt in his car, its in his living room, and its a coffee table.

got the 15" with thebox for $60 ....thats why the sub use to be sony 1000w and it was kicking pretty good.than it blew up lol. so thinking the higher wattage sub would make it sound better and won't blow up...didn't know it had to match the amp to sound good until it sound shitty so if i have the higher wattage amp to push the sub thats fine right? just don't push too hard to blow up the sup?

It could be that your amp isnt set up properly too. But definitely get a bigger amp. Sony is crap in my opinion. You will have a hard time blowing up that sub.

yes. go as loud as you want, but dont cry if u break something. My friend had 3x15's in his competition/demo civic back in the day. he blew his rear side windows before.

i would turn around and flip the thing for more, buy 2x12's instead. but hey, it's ur ride.

Match the RMS watts of the sub/amp combo. Maybe you need a better designed box. There's quite a lot of science that goes into design a proper box. Have you tried sound deadening?

I think it was 1 Farad for every 1000RMS? And be sure you're using a 4 or 2ga. Wiring kit. For my 2 12" 1200 RMS @ 1ohm Subs, I used 8ga. Wire(8 or 10 I forget) to wire up the subs to the amp, and 0 ga. from the battery to the 2.4Farad Digital cap. Would be silly to use a slim (8ga.) wire for the amp, and a fire hazard.

Good luck.

For that much power, you need a Higher output alternator !
I have a program that tells you how many amps you need for the wattage you are making.

Lemme know how much power you have and how many amps your alternator is.

that is enormous in a civic let alone in any car. personally id say just sell it and get a 10 or a 12, which is more than enough for our small little cars :P also you can actually blow the sub by under powering it as well, so be careful you match the rms

Often subs being fried is actually a symptom of not enough amp power. Amp goes into clipping or damping factor is shitty and voice coil gets destroyed due to the distortion. Also depends on type of sub box. What is it in? Ported, sealed, 5th order enclosure?

Pat.

PS... not really sure Sony makes any true 1000W amps. I am old so my amp lists only include Orion, PPI, Rockford Fosgate, Phoenix Gold and there 1000W amps weighed like 30 lbs. What does that Sony weigh??

OK im not going to read everyone else's post.
HERES WHAT TO DO

1. find out the RMS watts of the sub, and run a mono block (subwoofer amp) with the same RMS value.
2. Run atlest 2ga wire
3. dont waste time on a capacitor and you dont need to upgrade your Atl, get a power cell battery (kinetik) and put it in the trunk
4. do the BIG 3 ground wirte upgrade-search google for DIY

Thats all yu need to do im 100% on this
Good luck

If you suggest he runs a monoblock amp and he's driving one 15 inch sub could you tell me how he could change the ohm rating of the load on that amp??

Pat.

If its a dual voice coil sub (which it is) its quite easy to change the ohm rating.

^ x2 its easy just google it. for EX I have a kenwood KFC XW1300DVC 13" subwoofer 3ohms dvc and my amp runs 533x1 watts rms at 4ohms or 919x1 at 2ohms and can also run over 1000watts rms @ 1ohm stable.

so in order to power my subwoofer correctly I'll wire my 3ohms dvc into 1.5ohms and hit my recommend 1000watts rms right on the money

Your amp should actually be capable of at least 50% more RMS power then your sub because in reality it won't be making nearly as much power as the box says it will.

This tread and some of the advise makes me laugh..... and its not because I don't like loud. A great bass line is my silence.

Go see a professional in your area. There is alot more involved in this type of stereo application than most of these ppl on here know. Save yourself the hassle and headache.
