Threading speaker wire into doors.

Hey gang,

Anybody rethread speaker wire into their front dors.

My driver door is giving me audio troubles. The wire (assuming still factory Honda) is really shiet. When I expose more 'copper' to make a connection the wire looks black (almost has the appearance of being burnt" What gives?

So basically I need to rethread some new wire throew the spot where the hindge is and into the door again?

Any tricks or tips you can give me?

Yeh Happy ive done it in my moms 94 civic. We have no power anything in the doors, so all I had to do was run wire through the door in place of the old factory wire.

What I did for mine was unclip the rubber boots from both the door, and chasis of the car. Then use a coat hanger and push the speaker wire up out through the frame of the car, thread it through the rubber boot, then into the door. Once it was all done i Just re attached the boot to the door and chasis, and was done.

You can do it the way Matt suggested (which is the best way) or attach the new wires to the old ones in the door then gently pull the wire throug hfrom the car side.

yeah - I had actually thought of both of these methods - now I just have to wait for a nice(ish) day to get 'er done.

Yesturday looked nie but I was messing with it yesturday and almost froze my !@#'s off.

I didn't figure it would be too tough.

You guys have any thoughts on the 'burnt' look of the wire. What's up with that - is it just corroded or old (well, I know it's old) or what.

Could just be old and has come a little loose, causing very small sparks.

It's oxidation. If it's a solid wire, just scrape the area clean with an exacto knife & SOLDER THE CONNECTION with a rosen core solder. Use heat shrink over it to help seal it. If it's stranded You can still do it but the connection will be ALOT WEAKER. Better of to replace that section of wire. Are you sure your car dosen't have a quick disconnect plug in your door? (usually found in cars with power "stuff" in the doors. Made this way to make it alot easier to replace a door damaged in an accident) If it does, Get ready to start cutting, these plugs usually don't have accomadations for the addition of exrta wires. ( you might be able to drill a hole big enough right though the plug, I've been able to do this on some cars) Hope this helps. :working:
