Thinking about a car starter
ok so i have been debating about installing a car starter in my car for the longest time. i want to, but i don't want to dish out the extra cash to get one that is made for a standard car. i know an automatic one will work but how do you make it compatable. do you put a switch in to bypass the clutch so that you can start it...any response would be great... but i know it's not safe cuz someone can forget it in gear and then the car starts and hit's someone or something.... but i will only be starting it in my driveway....

ok i installed it and it works fine. i put a kill switch for the clutch so i have to turen it on before i can start the car. this will prevent anyone form putting the car in park and me starting it without knowing. thanks for all your replies.....NOT

I would have replied but I have no answer! At least you got it in! but maybe i'm not getting this right, you have to have the key on for the starter to work or you have to turn on the kill switch before the starter will work?
seeing how it looks like your the first to do it you should make an article out of it

i made a switch that closes the clutch circit. inorder for a standard car to start you need to press the clutch. this is so that you don't start the car with it in gear and end up hitting something or worse someone. the switch that i put in closes the circit for the clutch switch sensor and allows the car to start. if i turn the switch off then the car won't start because the clutch is down.
switch ON= car thinks clutch is down
Switch OFF= car thinks cluch is up.
with that taken care of you can start the car. and if you have an alarm you can set ip up so that you have to disarm the alarm before you start the car. on my car the car won't start unless the alarm is disarmed. it's a fail safe. the starter wire is cut and runs thought the alarm. anyways the hardest part is hidding the wired because my alarm has so many wires becasue if all the additions to it that i have little to no room under the dash. but i made it fit.... sort of.
after you start the car (without the key) if you want to drive the car you must have the key in the ignition or else the car will die the second you hit the break....

Just some advice to Bern. I believe your car is equipped with an immobilizer. In order for a remote starter to work, you have to bypass the immobilizer. This means, that the immobilizer is deemed useless. Civics until 7th gen didn't have immobizers (thus theft rates are higher). Now, the clutch switch idea is a pretty good one, but I believe there is a lot of work to install a remote starter on your car. I don't think it is worth the hassle. Besides, I don't think it takes that long for your car to warm up. It's not like you live in the Yukon. (although I have nothing against the Yukon)

What type of hack installer do you use? Any installer that knows how the thing works can by-pass it on remote start, and still keep it intact when the car is locked.
Bern, talk to me at the meet on wed......I'll get you a great deal on an auto start with keyless entry for your Lude.
By the way, did El like the "pic". Hehehehe. J/J.
