The standard issue of using raciong seats has to do with seat belts. Technically many option in to using racing belts with fall under a grey area under the highway traffic act . The seat themselves are not illegal .

how about the seat belts?? 4 point 5 point harnesses won't be an issue?? any suggestions where to buy them...

also was just thinking.. i have a sedan.. replacing the 2 front seats with racing seats.. i wonder if it will look good if i would have stock back seats??

Need suggestions: Racing seats or just re-upholster stock seats with leather or same??

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure using a 4 point harness is illegal.....something to do if you get in a accident and your knocked out the ambulance drivers are not trained to undo them.

So basically, its not do-able... best to stick to re-upholstery then... btw, can't the standard seatbelts be used????

I think EMS crew would cut the belt instead of undoing it.

racing seats for daily city driving are uber uncomfortable and fatiguing. i am referring to hardcore racing seats that are designed for track use.

sport buckets are a different story.

NOW i am confused... the stock seats they(dealership) call them as bucket seats.. Now which is really a bucket seat, a racing seat and a sport buckets??

Is it

Bucket seats - Stock seats that they claim to be bucket seats.

Racing Seats - the solid 1 piece racing seats?

Sport Buckets - racing seats that can be reclined?

Thanks!:-)

Cheap sport buckets are Not street legal eg the teknotic seats they are not crash tested it is more than just a seatbelt to worry about.

The reclining mechanism in a rear ender is not supposed to break which in a cheap seat they can and cause very severe injury

the steel in those seats is just enough to hold the seat together

I would sooner put a full race bucket in before i would use a cheap ebay seat

recaro's brides, etc are street legal because they are made to OEM standards hense why they are so expensive

As far as the seatbelts so imo-the 4/5 point harness belts lock you in. They have little give. If you're in an accident your body will take the brunt of the impact. At 200kph they might be safer cause you're strapped in tight but I think you'll have more things to worry about in the event of a collision at that speed. Stock belts are designed to stretch and give more in an accident I'm pretty sure the race belts are illegal on the street. You can still have them in for shows...

My buddy has 5 points in his Nova.

there legal, but you MUST have every point hooked up (you cant use just 4 points in a 5 point)

there are many oem seats that the top goes forward without any levers or buttons etc. they just push out of the way, so I can't see the lever breaking on cheap seats as an issue. as for the belts, racing or otherwise, the emergency people don't get trained to undo anything. belts are designed so that if you cut at a 90 degree angle to the belt the cut easy.
