Help

2 kicker L7 15's dual 4ohm
Us amps merlin MD2D mono amp good at 1ohm

I recently installed my new system, i had everything wired correctly, and i checked the ompedence of each sub before i put power to them. Both 2.1ohms each. (there dual 4 ohm Kicker L7 15's) Got everything all hooked up and running, and just as i was tuning my system(aprox. 15minutes) the amp stoped. Went into protection. Now no matter what i did i couldnt get it out of protection, tried it in another friends car too. Nothing. So i sent the amp back under warrenty.

I have a rockford p3001 that i thought id use in the meantime, just to give me a little bit of bass. After hooking both upto the 3001, after about 15 minutes of use it goes into protect aswell? i disconnected the speakers and its fine. Then i just run the right sub. Still fine. Tried just the left sub and its making a weird flttuering noise while driving. There is bass, a good amount, but u can clearly hear the fluttering coming from the sub. I took the sub out an inspected the leads to the coils etc. and everything looks fine, but it sounds like a tinging noise when i push down on the cone coming form the coil. I have been using jyst the right sub for days now, works great.

My question is, would whatever is wrong with the sub cause my amp to crap out?? It says 2.1 ohms but maybe once it heats up or somthing it shorted out my amp?? And what would be the most educated guess is wrong with the sub??

Sorry for the long post, its kind of complicated for me to explain. And im getting really tired of troubleshooting on my own...

Thanks for any help you can give,
Kyle.

Sounds like the subs voice coil could be bad, take a meter to the leads and press up and down on the sub if it reads 0 that means there is a short in the coil. heck that first and let me know.

OK tried what u said and i dont get zero. However if i test both coils wired in parrallel i get 1.7-1.8ohms. If i check each coil individually i get 3.8 at one coil and then the other coil i dont get any reading at all... Im taking it thats the problem??

Wouldnt know where i could get a kicker L7 repaired in the GTA so i dont have to pay shipping?

Thanks Davis,
Kyle.

Yeah one sub is blown, Call any kicker retailer and they can see if they can get it fixed or replaced.
