finding the bad/short circuit?

Okay, so i had no luck visually inspecting any wires for my
crx which started to blow the center console fuse and
that's when cd player stopped working.

So i got this multi meter (Ohm/Volt/Ampere) thing with
confusing interface, with 2 wires, one black one red,
does anyone know how to use this thing to detect which
wire's shortening?

when did you install the deck?

you should remove the deck and see if there are any bare wires cause this will cause shorting out also.

check all fuses.
if you put a new fuse in does it pop right away or after a little bit?(couple days, after driving) or did it just recently blow for no reason out of the blue?

well, yes i just recently installed the deck, about a month ago?
it was workign fine, then it stopped working, i played around
with the wires a bit, then now it stopped workign completely
and yes, the fuse does blow right away, but its funny because
the 10A "radio" fuse doesnt blow at all it's the 15 A "cigarette lighter, clock and light" fuse that keeps on blowing as soon as i put it in.

thanks for the reply

so the radio doesnt work but the fuse is ok for it?
just the cigarette lighter one blows?

i personally would pull back off the stereo surround and undo the screws for the deck pull it out. look to see that the cigarette lighter stuff is still allpluged in and that there is no bare wires touching any where. as that stupid metal surround in the dash like to blow fuses when any thing touchs it. have had a problem before where it had cut into a wire and shorted out.

you hooked the power for the deck to its proper wire.

did you just pick a power wire and hook it up? where did you get the info on installing it.? first time ?

IMO i would remove it check for bare wires or nothing not plugged back in and also check the fuse on the back of the deck. sometimes if you get a short to the deck that fuse will blow first so it doesnt fry the deck on you.

good luck

oh also dont forget to turn the deck power back on! once it has been disconnected or not recieved power the deck will need to be powerede back on for it to remember to turn back on when the ignition is on.

thanks, i'l check the surrounding metal thing once more.
I got the information off this website that told me what
Typical Honda wiring is like (such as white wire for this, red wire for that) and hooked it up with my cd deck. The cd deck's fuse i checked, it's not blown. radio fuse is okay but it doesnt work.
I picked the power for the deck from the stock stereo
I'm gonna go and check once more, for any bare wires

*Wish me luck!*

WOOT! I got music back in my car... by a weird method though.
I took it all apart nothing was wrong, all the wires were good
i taught myself how to use the "meter" to make sure things
are grounded and there's power coming in.

With the needle on the meter i accidently connected
2 of the fuses together (the ones that come with cd deck)
and i heard it turn on.

So i put wire across that, i think what i did was connect
12V with 12V memory because everytime i shut the ignition off
and turn it back on, clock is re setted, and my cd player setting is
all gone BUT I HAVE MY MUSIC!!! that's all good lol

thanks a lot Hatch for ur help
