Yeah it'll fit, but why not go for a DOHC ZC? Similar power, they cost about the same and it's an easier install. If it were me with a 4th gen I'd save up a little longer for a 1st gen B16A.

Yup.. it'll bolt right up to the Si tranny.. As for the mount.. You'll have to swap the old Si engine mount bracket onto the Y8. The one on the driver side.

But you won't be able to activate Vtec with the Si ecu.. but at least you can get it to run.

Can't you just get an aftermarket V-TEC controler to do that?

Won't he have to rewire everything so he can use the D16Y8 OBD II ecu or is there an easier way to do this?

Yeah that's one way, or convert it to Z6 specs and run the P28... either way I think it's easier to just drop in a ZC...

Ask HappyB16 about that ZC motor of his...

I don't think he's too happy with what the final outcome was

Happy had problems because he has a 5th gen, totally different wiring. On a 4th gen it's a straight drop... just get the right ECU. If you get stuck with an auto ecu just get it converted to manual ecu specs.

Actually I thought Happys ZC went kaboom on him?!?!?!

Wiring wasn't the cause of it was just a shitty motor.

Anyways, all that aside... I know little to nothing about D series motors since I drop those like a bad cold when I get cars with them

Regards,
OK

Maybe he got a lemon, who knows. There's a few guys at meets with ZC's in 4th gen's and they run fine. There were 2 4th gen sedans at the last meet, I think they both had ZC's and the owners told me they loved it... considering the low price they paid.

IMO the ZC is the best bang for the buck for 4th gens. Bolt on a turbo and you're laughing.

If you pick up a used motor, it's always better to have it properly inspected. Even a clean looking one can turn out to have crap internals!

There are greyplug (OBD-1) DOHC ZC engines available. I'm not sure what Dan had tho?
Like everyone else is saying, ZC's are great pricewise - and a good platform for boost too.
IMO, I'd still take the ladder and drop in a B16 instead.

Can't you just get an aftermarket V-TEC controler to do that?
That's a real shitty way to try and get things working. Non-VTEC motors run totally different fuel and ignition maps. Even a VTEC controller can't compensate enough to have the motor run in optimal condition. Your better off by having the ECU re-chipped.
