Im contemplating buying an older crx, with stock motor in it. Do the newer d series motors bolt into the car? The non vtec ones? Like the d16y7 etc?

And also since alot of people throw these engines away after swaps how much can you usualy pick them up for?

I just was wonder so that I could have a backup if the motor went, because id need the car for school.

just the motor alone? should cost u no more than 300 bucks!

as far as the motor just bolting right up, i cant help you out there bud... i know nothing about CRX's

i'll take a wild guess and assume u can only get motors' from 95 and older for it to be an "easier" drop in???

The motor will drop in perfectly fine as long as you transfer the mounting bracket over from the CRX motor... You'll have to use the intake manifold off the CRX as well.
