$5000 later.
I don't know how deep your pockets are, i'm guessing not very deep if you're asking how to get the most whp out of the least $$$.
Boost isn't cheap, unless you do EVERYTHING yourself, even then, its still $2000 for parts (decent ones at least).
N/A you'd spend twice as much and only get 220(ish)whp.
IMO....n20 is your friend.

a J-Spec SI, then boring it to a 1.8 and ready for turbo
getting a jdm si and stroking it to 1.8

i rather you get a ls motor and boost it... why for all the trouble?
you can easily find and install a b18b motor for 1500 or less... spend 500 to do all the good maintenance and prepare it for turbo... then spend another 1500-2500 to piece together a turbo kit and get someone to install it (or do it urself to save a few hundreds) and then get some good tuning.

or get a b16a, get some good i/h/e and call it a day...

getting a j-spec si motor is still around 120ish hp is waste of labour to install it.. for 500 more, u can be getting a b18b motor... and why stroke it to 1.8 for more displacement when you can get a 1.8L motor? i rather you raise the displacement of a 1.8L motor

try to do more research, think of what your goals are... set some budget line... like in spring, how much will you have, in summer, how much will you have.... you need atleast 3g in the beginng to do all the necessary upgrades

- motor (b18b 1200-1500$ if source right)
- i/h/e (generic intake, megan header, magnaflow or ws catback - $800-1000)
- maintenance (ie timing belt, water pump, oil change)
- optional: cap & rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wire, coolant flush, tranny flush
- suspension (full coilovers or strut+springs, add some strut bars, while you're at all, check if the balljoints need replacement before you lower it) - $1000
- maybe better brake pads (+ brake bleed while at it, service the brakes) ($100-$200)

those stuff with labour will get you in $3000 (achieveable budget if you save to the max till march/april)

then maybe you want to start turbo or build up your engine in the summer... perhaps another 3000-3500

then you might want some rims, lips, hid, seats, stereo etc.

the list never ends

turbo what you've got.

or build a motor on the side and get everything ready, over time, then one day when it's all ready...swap it in!

It's hard to mod your car when your money is always going elsewhere....

finish school then go all out. Cheap + HP is pretty much non-existant. Engine swaps, turbo's, NOS..its all $1500 - $5000 or more.
