weird tranny

I got a tranny bolted to my b series block and i believe its a b16 tranny

but the gears are so short

im doing 120km/h on hwy in 5th gear and my rpm is at 4000

when i had my si civic before my rpm in 5th at 120 would be 3100rpm

anyone know if this is normal for a b16a2 tranny?

Sound's about Right. Remember B16's rev to 8000RPM so 4000RPM is only half way. And no I dont' think its a D-Tranny...lol.
The manufacturer's try to set the OD gear to Cruise(at legal speed's) with alright gas mileage. But not be low enough that there is no passing power. If you have to drop a Gear to pass, Road and track and Car and driver start whining and then the Manufacturer HAS to change it. Remember Car manufacturer's cater to the Everyday person. Not us enthusiast's.

i hope these short gears actually help save gas
cuz i always thought that longer gears are better for highway use cuz u cruise at low rpm and therefore save gas

well there's always a trade off. Acceleration or Top-End/Cruising.
And B16 tranny's are meant for full acceleration. And remember in Japan lot's of car's were speed limited to 112km/h. And your either on a hill/Mountain in japan or in retarded traffic. So it make's sense to have quick gear's. In germany they have the autobahn and suprise suprise, Car's liek VW's and Audi's are geared really tall for top-end cruising. And come on dude. Your driving less than a 2litre. Your not going to get much better than that. I guess with your tranny though you'll have to cruise at 100km/h if you wanna be real thrifty on the gas.
