Valve Adjustment

Hey Guys,

I think my motor needs a valve adjustment, so i am wondering where i should go to get this done. The motor is a JDM D15b vtec, i would like to get it done around mississauga / oakville, all the affiliates seem to be in toronto.

Thanks

I got an estimate for it from a mechanic and it was over 200, so i think i'll try doing it myself, i kinda have an idea of how to, the only part that i am a little foggy on is finding TDC, if anyone can explain it to me, that would be excellent.

And they do a crappy job b/c they have attempted to do mine twice and I still have the same ticking noise in the engine.

I don't think it's the valve adjustment that's your problem.

Maybe someone else can elaborate...I can't remember right now.

The ticking noise your probably hearing in the engine bay of a B-series vtec motor is most likely the fuel injectors,(perfectly normal) this is often confused with valve noise.

how do you know if you need valve adjustment?

my motor makes a valve clicking noise for a few seconds when the car turns on...and then the noise goes away

I believe that is simply because it takes a few seconds for the oil to get pumping through the entire engine when you start it cold. Most of the oil settles down in the oil pan and takes a second or two to be pumped back up to the valve train when you start the engine.

Actually I don't have a B series engine. I have the base D series engine that came with the EKs.

The ticking noise use to happen only in the winter when the car was sitting outside in the cold for long periods of time. Now it happens all the time when I start it up.

I've been to sooo many mechanics but nobody can tell me what the problem is or how I can fix it. Some said it is the valves, and I adjusted them twice without success. Others said that it's common for Hondas to make this noise and I shouldn't worry about it, others told me I need to replace the head, and so on and so forth.

I personally don't think it's normal for a car with 167K on it to make this noise, but since nobody can tell me what I can do I have no choice but to leave it the way it is. What's hard about this is that the noise only occurs when the car is cold (1st 1-2 minutes), and by the time I go to any mechanic the noise is gone. I have the same problem with the clutch that squeaks only the 1st 3-4 times I press it in the morning and then it's OK. I just wish I knew what to do to fix the problem.

my EK with a d16y7 ticks pretty loud any time its idling.

Im not sure what it is either but it seems to run fine and it has like 150km on it.

Me and a friend adjusted the valves and it still seems to be the same so i have no cluue what the problem is either

its injector slap, you cant fix it. If you want to hear injector slap come for a ride in my car and you'll think yours sounds like nothing.

Do a search on your squeek, you'll find your answer

Mine is actually only ticking at idle when the car is cold. I know I have said before that it ticks only in the winter, but I see that now it ticks even at the current outside temperatures. I am experiencing the same ticking even when I leave work, which means that this only happens if the car is sitting for 7-8 hours.

Unlike your car mine is not ticking at all while at idle at traffic lights or when I'm stuck in traffic.

What is very strange is a weird noise I hear when I accelerate, and usually immediately after I shift gears. The loudest is after I shift from 2nd to 3rd, but it also happens after shifting from 1st to 2nd when going up a hill or if I have 2-3 people in the car.

The noise comes from the engine on the passenger side, and in lack of better words, it sounds like a liquid being stirred in a glass or a liquid being injected into another glass or something like that.

My wife's 04 Si Sedan makes that same noise for a split second when I put it in drive and press the accelerator. Anyone know what that could be?
