Turbo talk

I need some of the expertise of the TCC members, you know who you are...

I now have the money for the full turbo setup. I would want the turbo to have a timer or something like that.

What I want to do is to tune the boost and only make power at higher rpm etc...

As you can see from my post, I am pretty tigh up... need some info.

heheh.... I like these smilies

what do you mean a timer, a turbo timer? that just lets the car run for whatever u set it at to let the turbo cool down, also to tune the boost you have to play with the wastegate, and you might want a boost controller(apex'i) to fine tune it. What type of motor are you planing on boosting?

You need alot more work done then just having the turbo. IMO its a waist to just buy one only to detionate and blow your moter because of pour air/fuel-ecu management.

Its not that you have the turbo, its what you do with the moter to work with it. Thats when it gets expensive. It cost 2x as much as the kit it self to prep the moter properly.

Any shop will tell you its ok to just slap it on, because its a quick sale for them and even more when you break it.

Like my friend....

He just spent 10G on a sick kit+work with NO internals running STOCK fuel and STOCK engine management. He blew a gasket and over heated the moter to the point that it left a char-coal score right through his hood.

That was one week of his new turbo charged blot-on. No good, not done proper.

What is your project?
What car, moter, money and hp-1/4 times do you have in mind?

I have passed the stage on detonation and comprehend the importance of internals for some crazy hp... not looking for that, I am aiming at 200hp but want as little Hp in the low rmp as possible. Don't know if that is possible...

I said the motor was SOHC, EX. Money is unlimited for a good setup.

***DON'T WANT ANYTHING OVER 210HP*** just thought I add that, cause I know someone will suggest 400hp with a motor strip down and build up.

This turbo setup will have all the piping and intercooled work.

I have own an fully mod MR2 turbo that up grade it's turbo and is not running right now. No one can fix it, the car looks fine, he could of burn some wires etc... The turbo is new it drives, but not faster than I can run.

Not thinking of Dragging this car at all. Will be racing, but will not drag.

All the piping will be custom, hopefully. Fuel rails, fuel pressure regulators have all been decided....

9.5:1 compression ratio is pretty good right?

Thanks guys......

Not nessarly internals.

You would upgrade the fuel pump, upgrade the map and o2 sensors, get a vafc (apxi) piggyback system with maby even a little larger injectors. Get a manual boost controller, and run a t3/t4 turbo, will spool faster then a larger turbo to get you that help on the low end. It sounds like overkill, but it will give you that piece of mind that it wont run lean when you want to beat it up.

Make sure you have nice gagues, boost, EGT and airfuel and just watch if the engine is running too hot...

Hondas are high reving moter and will make the most power at top. (obviuosly) Therefor, its up to the driver to make up for low power on the bottem (ie, downshifting, and high rev acellerrations) You will need a nice clutch for that one.

After its all said and done your only making around 200 at the wheels running stock psi and THAT will cost you bout 5g still...

The moneys not worth it. TRY nitrous if you need extra power when racing, and save you money to build on a better platform.

I see your point and thanks for some of the advise, I did forget about the transmission.

But I am really set on the turbo, SOHC is really hard to make power with any mod even if I build the living crap out of the motor it will be like a SIR. I have asked around and everyone says the engine is not reliable if I do all those mods (camshaft, high compression piston....etc....) very little of Honda's engine makes 200hp, even the Type-r costs around 6g+ not including install and mounts etc.... With the turbo, you are getting all that torque too. And I think 200hp to 210hp is safe, of course I will not be going the install myself.

Thanks guys
