turbo/aditives for oil? =good or bad?
soo call me stupid but id rather be safe then sorry
anyways is there any type of aditives anyone recommends trying out for a turboed car i noticed i burns a little oil but thats only when i give it alot...right now im running 5w-50 syntetic and 94 octane sunoco gas...car is a 91 rhd toyota mr2 turbo by the way...
since the turbo is oil cooled is there any certain things i shouldnt put in my oil?? or anything anyone could recommend jusy curious...

most factory turbo'd cars have a water cooled center section to help increase turbo life because they don't typically come with turbo timers to help the turbo cool down after driving hard. there will be oil as well for lubricating the bushings/shaft in the center section. i've never seen an oil additive specifically aimed at turbo engines but i don't see any harm coming to your engine/turbo if you use a regular additive. i just don't think it is needed. every car burns a little oil here and there.

Don't use additives. On a side note, depending on bearing clearances in your toyota, a 50 weight may not be necessary. Too heavy an oil and you increase spool time, as well as the chances of coking. Just make sure to employ proper cool down, or a turbo timer, and maybe in the future look towards a 5w40 or 10w40 oil. Once again, forget the additives.
Since you are experiencing oil burning, if its excessive, I would look into the cause of it, and find a solution, instead of messing around with the oil properties to try and band-aid the situation.

ya i know the 5-50 is a little too think i think too im changeing too 5-40 next oil change in about 2000 kms and ya i think i did notice a little more turbo lag as well i thought it was maybe just me though...

yeah im surprised the amsoil guy hasnt hit you up yet... but amsoil and i forget who else.. but its a full synthetic meant for turbo cars. why not try that? it wouild have all the important additives alread formulated in it for what a turbo car needs and then just get the recommended oil for your car...
