Thread hijack alert:
This is something that has irked me for awhile.
I think defining performance products in "stages" is just noob or ricer replacement speak for people who don't know what they are talking about.
Ie "yo guy I gots more money than sense and got me a stage 4 clutch with 3 stage vtec heads, it's mad type JDM ish"
For example I bought my Exedy organic racing clutch(I don't even know what stage it is) because A)It has an organic face which is both easier on flywheels and has smooth engagement B)has a sprung hub such that it's streetable(smooth engagement again) as I drive in traffic and C)Knowing that I'm running an NA street car it has 30something% greater torque capacity than an OEM type R clutch which is more than I need, providing room for additional performance enhancements.
If people actually did a bit of research on products that are out there, not only would they learn more about their vehicles and parts in general but I'm sure they would be happier with the result of their modications and have money in the pocket to boot.
Goes with the old adage "Measure twice, cut once." Planning is everything.
End of rant.

Well said, but people someone asked what exactly stages were so I gave them a general explanation. That clutch you bought was a Stage 1. I know it sounds noob and all, but most people do reasearch the difference in stages. It just sets a standard in knowing which I guess you could say, Model has higher performance. I much prefer they have Stage 1 etc beside a product description, rather then just looking at some random digit product code when trying to figure out the specs it helps you decide easier what you require in order to research things further. Atleast for me.

I agree with you on this, but I also believe that the manufacturers are at fault as they are the ones marketing their products as such. I can understand it to a point considering how competitive the market( Honda parts especially) is right now and the manufacturer doesn't want to create more competition by releasing specifications. On the other hand, looking at the muscle car or domestic market parts or kits have specs listed EVERYWHERE. If they could just provide some simple specs on their products, alot of the talk/confusion could be avoided.
On a side note, but up the same creek:
I was at mosport 2 weeks ago for a motorcycle track day and a younger guy was describing a motorcycle to his friend. He reffered to it as the "4-pipe" one, and how it was so fast compared to the others. It just happened to be a 750cc MV Agusta F4(bike has decals denoting name and model) which is around 30G USD. Looks great yes, but was up against new GSXR 1000's and such. I just shook my head.
