Storing Ur Rims

Well winter is here and I took my tires/rims off my car and put on the stock ones

I was told tha t storing them in the garage is not good because of the cold weather and the temperature will effect the tires(cracking and **** after)

can any1 provide insight on this...past experiences?
I think I am better off storing them in my basement where the house will always maintain a certain temp (22C or something)

I think they are fine in the garage......I doubt that cold temp is bad for the rubber, but maybe fast temp changes, but even then I doubt it would make a difference.

I always clean them as best I can, over inflate and use a bit of rust check stuff along my beads. If you have hammer on weights then rust check over the weights is a good idea (they always start to corrode first). I put them in the basement.

i ahd mine in my bedroom last year, and this year, i have another set in my garage, i dont think anything bad can happen if they stay in your garage. but if u wanna stay on the safe siide, i would say just put em in your basement with a blanket on em to keep them fromm maybe getting scratched and dusty

yea i cleaned up and i wrapped them up for storage...

i think i might take ur pt Chris and put some rust check spray over the weights on the rims....

Last time i had rims i left in the garage and sold the car after with them so didnt really get to c if the tires cracked or anything...
but this yr i think i'll put em in the basement
thanks for the input

I would think as long as you keep the tire pressure @ a good rate and leave it in the garage it should be fine..

think about it.. you worry about getting scratched and whatnot.. imagine what they go through on a daily basis while your driving?!

Store the tires where there is no UV exposure, and keep full pressure.

shouldn't be aproblem with the weather...think what tires go through when they are on the car...i keep my tires under my deck under a tarp in thick garbage bags
but do make sure they are not stacked..i did this and found they needed to be balanced in the spring when put back on.

Talking

Storing them in a garage should be fine unless you are running DOT race tires where temperature would be a bigger factor.
I've been told by many mechanics to stack them up on top of each other and to avoid standing them upright on the treads.
Anyways every garage I go I see them do it this way too.

But to each his own and everyone has their own opinion.
If a person has the space inside their house then why not.

My .02 cents.

each wheel/tire combo weighs about 40 lbs in the case of your 17s... so three stacked on top is 120 lbs on top of the bottom wheel... and in a direction that it wasn't meant to take force in (wheels are made to take force while rolling upright, same with tires).

personally I don't see any real reason why it shouldn't be stored stacked on top of one another... but I can see why it's better to store them upright.
