Sohc Zc Vtec Build!

hey, im building a ZC vtec engine with pm7 pistons and a D16Z6 head. what do you think the compretion ratio will be at with that combination? if the bearings are still mint in that engine, do you think that i shold re-use them or pick up a new set? and what numbers do u think ill be pushing on the dyno?
thanks -> kevin <-

no such thing as mint bearings on a motor that old.

And that's why they created honda compression calculators

i figured out tha compretion ratio and it is 12.1:1, what numbers do you think i might be pushing? and will a stock head gasket hold up to that compretion?

#s depend on ALOT more than just the static compression..It;s very hard to say.

I'd get new ones...

I'd also measure your cylinders for taper, out of roundess and over-bore to ensure that your block is in decent shape.

or quit wasting your time and money on a d-series n/a build, swap in a gsr and make the same, if not more power on a stock engine.
People spend like $5000 to build a n/a d-series to get what 150-160whp TOPS!!!. You'll get that with a $2500 gsr swap, and the all honda parts reliability.
Not that i just had a huge glass of Haterade or anything, i just don't like to see people spend money on building a n/a d-series and be totally disappointed after a trip to the dyno.

Smile Sohc Zc Vtec Build!

alright i found 2 ZEX cams for that build, witch one should i use?

SERIOUS STREET / RACE (po. # 59100)
Great cam for increased power and torque with effeciency. Works with stock components. RPM OPERATING RANGE 2000 to 6700.

or

SEVERE STREET / COMPETITION (po. # 59300)
Best performance cam available. Large increases above stock cam from off idle to the rev limiter. Excellent high RPM power. Requires Spring #912-16. RPM OPERATING RANGE 2000 to 7200.

i was thinking the SERIOUS STREET / RACE cause i dont have to change valve springs but i rev my car past 6700 rpm.

here is the info on the cam:
Honda D16Z6 1.6L SOHC VTEC 1992-1995 Civic EX, 1993-1995 Del Sol SI and Honda D16Y8 1.6L SOHC VTEC
ZEX™ cams use exclusive XR Series lobe designs to produce unmatched gains in torque and horsepower. ZEX™’s Honda 1.6L SOHC VTEC cams are available for two specific RPM ranges to meet all your performance needs. Our Serious Street/Race grind is designed to be a simple “drop-in” installation and works well with stock components. The Severe Street/Competition cam is engineered to meet the demands of the serious performance and race enthusiast. Regardless of grind, the ZEX™ Honda 1.6L SOHC VTEC cams will provide the performance you need to “Own the Street"!

hey ZEEMAN all i have to say is "HONDA ENGINE CODES ARE LIKE *****, B'S ARE GOOD BUT D'S ARE BETTER"!
LOL!

THANKS AGAIN!:

What if you use P29 pistons? I know you can use these in D16A6 and raise the compression ratio to 11.3:1 if im correct. Wouldnt that be more reasonable? Isnt 12.1:1 a bit too high if its gonna be street driven daily?

Thumbs up Sohc Zc Vtec Build!

when i was reading up on the compretion stuff and i thaught it was to high too, i found out that you can run that high of compretion daily as long as yuo run a high enough of octane fuel like 91 of 94. but to be safe i'll be funing 94 with an octane booster. it may be pricey but you will be safe.
