short shifter
Hi guys, i know this might be a very stupid question, but i am just wondering what exactly is a short shifter?
Do u have to change the whole gear box or just the shift stick itself? like the one u get in canadian tire.

You change the shift stick only.
Very simple, relatively cheap, and well worthy mod.
You can find a short shifter for $30-$50 that works very well.
You will really like it, believe me !!
It makes the shifts much shorter and faster.
With the stock stick, you kindda slap it into gear, but with a short shifter you just FLICK it into gear. It makes a manual trasmission car even more fun to drive !!!
Remember, when you are shifting, the car isn't accelerating (Since you don't press the gas pedal, and its not in gear). So the faster the shifts, the faster the car accelerates.
Shouldn't take more than 1 hour to do the installation either... Unless you have to deal with rusted/ seized stuff...

I true Honda racer must appreciate the previlage of having a vehicle with such simple design, that enables the owner to benefit from such easy to do modifications.
Therefore, a TRUE Honda enthusiast, MUST HAVE A SHORT SHIFTER !!!!!

I have to agree, its a worthy mod, since its so cheap... It was my favorite mod when I first put it in, was like night and day...
I have the integra shifter in, the stick is bent forward more than the civic, I find it more comfortable with a nice lift to the throw, makes a better grip...
You need to get right under the car to do the job, and sometimes have to pull the midpipe off the hanger, to get room, which can be a pain sometimes... But overall its a good DIY job...

^^^ really, uve seen one break? damn ud have to really be slamming the gears to break one of those *****... geesh, that would be hard on the forks and other tranny parts too, if you hammering hard enough to break one...

The one that Rick broke was a cheap one from Crappy Tire. The lower priced ones are made from cast aluminum, thats why they break. Cast aluminum is not very strong. The mid-priced ones like Solo are billet aluminum, and are much stronger. High quality ones are steel like OEM. I have heard stories of Solo's breaking, but I had mine for almost two years (70,000kms) and I never had a problem with it. The throws were very short and precise, but it sat about 1.5 inches lower, and it is kinda far to reach for a taller driver. I switched to s Skunk2 last week, and it is awesome. They are pretty pricey at almost $200, but I think well worth it. If you want a cheap but good shifter that shortens the throws, and sits lower, get a Solo.

ya mine did break... but there was a plethera of other reasons for it braking.... the major is that when my clutch didn't work you sometimes had to really force it into gear... which puts signifigantly more stress on it... but i have the same thing in now ( i got it for free) i tig welded some reinforcing beads around where it broke last time... much stiffer now 
but i wouldn't trust an aluminum rod that hasn't been reinforced....

when it actually broke though i was on my way home from school in toronto and i was at a stop light... i go to put it in first gear and it felt really loose... i pull up on it and out it comes.... the story of how i got home is something else though

Solo is not the way to go trust me, I've seen those break time and time again. My friends broke once during a race and then once when he was just driving home on the 401.
I went qith the skunk2 shifter and ****, I love it, the **** is very heavy it actually makes it easier and faster to shift.
So I give to skunk
