Shifter problem

hey guys,

got a 5spd sedan, bone stock and have the following problem with my shifter:

sometimes it takes some serious effort to put the damn thing into a gear, the funny part is, it also sometimes is too easy. What's even more confuzing is the fact that it does it randomly to different gears. 1-4, never does to 5th.

sometimes when I shift into 1st, I can't even feel that I actually put it in gear, the shifter just slides in there without any feedback. And sometimes it's impossible from the 1st attempt.

It does it randomly regardless whether the car is in motion or stopped.

Also, it does it more often in lower gears. 1st is the worst, 2nd not as bad and not as often, and so on ...

At first, i ignored the problem because it would happen maybe once every two weeks, but it's happening more often lately and it's really getting on my nerves.

Does anyone have any clue about as to what could be wrong?

Thanks!

could possibly be your syncro's are going out in your transmission, which is causing difficulty, or it could be as simple as a worn out shifter bushing which is causing you trouble.

just bring it to a shop for them to check.

damn, I think it could be syncos ...

this morning as I was shifting from 1st to 2nd, it would not go in and I head this horrible grinding sound .... put her in neutral, back into 2nd, and still same **** .... after moving a shifter around for a bit it finally worked ....

if I was merging into fast moving traffic, I'd definately get into an accident ..... shitty ....

thanx for responses though

Not the bushings...I have had the same problem and I recently replaced the assembly with a B&M short shifter and Energy Susp bushings. Same problem still. I think I bent the forks in the tranny when I was first driving my civic from brand new, cause I used to force it into first while rolling to a stop. Oh well, that tranny won't be around for too much longer. Works really good for now though, and it hasn't really beed abused besides that.

make sure the clutch is fully dis-engaging..
if the input shaft is spinning at all it give you the grind..
