recomended tire size for 17's
Hi. I have a 2004 civic lx sedan and jus bought 17 inch rims. Went to a tire shop and they told me i will need to get 215 40 17 size tires. They also told me if i get 205 40 17 tire, they will not install them cause it will be unsafe for the model of my car. Please advise if this is true. Thanks for your help.

I would think the size of the tire would be more related to the actual rims you bought... load rating could be a bigger issue when it comes to your car...
how about you go to another shop and see what they say...

the diameter of the rim will be too small if you get 205/40/17, but I have a 01 civic and have that tire size with no problems.
The tire sizes that keep the diameter of the wheel and tire combo within 3% of stock are
205/45/17 which is basically the perfect match
215/45/17 the diamter is a bit bigger than stock
215/40/17 the diamter is a bit smaller than stock
i would recommend you going for 205/45/17
