Possible Main Crank Bearing Noise?

Possible Main Crank Bearing Noise?
Hi Guys:
Yesterday, my 1999 Honda Civic SI started making an engine noise. It currently has 215K and is non-vtec.
+ Started Yesterday
+ Can hear the noise when idling
+ does not sound like a rattle
+ when revving, can hear the noice slightly, louder when decreasing rev
+ No oil light ON, oil checked and is fine
Questions:
1. is it possible that the crank bearing would go at 215k?
2. Is there any other scenerio that I should consider?
3. If it is the crank bearing, what work is required and what should I estimate as cost?
Thanks for your help in advance...

civic si, and non-vtec?? that sounds odd.
a spun main bearing is a very distinct noise... you'd def know, and you'd prolly have metal in your oil when you checked it.
it could be a sticking valve or something...
either way, to replace the engine prolly about a grand with labour done or prolly two grand to rebuild yours properly.

Thanks.
Its definitely not a vtec; my wife bought it new w/o the vtec, I double checked.
Based on what you said about the metal shavings in the oil, I went and checked the oil again and didn't find anything.
I'm going to get someone to take a look tomorrow morning, but I think the valve might be a good place to start.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
AL

try a valve lash adjust. Have you considered the rings and does it consume a fair amount more oil recently?
Oh and if you think its the bottom end thats bad do a leakdown test and a compression test and diagnose it from there.

if it says si on the back, unless it had another motor put in it, it would have to be vtec... the motor doesn't say on it, but you should have some sohc vtec there!!!!
where does the sound come from? tranny side? belt side? what does it sound like?
could be your crank pulley... need more info...

There is no decals on the back of the SI or even on the engine compartment. My 99 prelude has the decal and the engine print. I even checked the sales document and it doesn't mention vtec.
The noise seems to be coming from the right side near the timing belt. I had a mechanic take a look at it this morning, and its definitely not the crank bearing, but he said it might be the water pump - which I changed at 160km along with the timing belt.
He's going to start pulling some belts off and see if he can isolate the noise - I'm just glad to hear its not the bearing...
Thanks,

what is the first 7 digits of the VIN number... if you don't have vtec, you don't have and Si... and the first few digits of the vin # can tell us if you have VTEC or not. just look and see if it says EJ6 or EJ8 in the first few digits of the VIN.

The model is Civic SI G.. no mention of a vtec
The mechanic found the culprit - it was the AC bearing that was making noise.
Thanks.
