Is It Possible To Convert OBD1 Motor To BeOBD2 Compatible?

Hey,

I was reading on H-T about someone converting an OBD1 b16a motor to be compatible with the OBD2 system in his '99 Civic but he did not not get into details about it. So I was wondering if this is even possible? I can see my swap a lot sooner if its possible.

Yeah it's possible. I converted an OBD0 b16 to OBD 2 1996 car.

You would have to add a sensor (CKF - crank fluctuation sensor)
to the mix for it to work, located on oil pump. You may have to change out the Oil pump to another b-series oil pump 1996 or newer so the sensor can bolt on to it.

Why not just run the OBD1 motor with an OBD1 ecu using an OBD2b->OBD1 conversion harness?? way easier and you can just use a chipped P06 ecu which is way cheap!!

do it before you install and the cert is good for a year... and after you do it, you're good for 2 years... so in other words, you can be good for 3 years minus a day if you time it right.

I have changed an obd1 engine to obd2 and its a hassle because you do have to install that crank sensor, change the oil pump. Thats not only the problem, you have to use your obd2 sensors and emmisions control units, solenoinds and valves to work without making the engine light come on. The car will still pass emmisions with the proper swap, just do it right and you will have no problems.

Or you can get the harness whatever is cheaper for you. i just happened to have a blown obd2 block avaialable so it was easier for me to change the oil pump. But that up to you.
