Need Advise quick, (engine swap)

I have a 1998 LS engine in my 1995 coupe right now, I was wondering if the Jap spec SIR (170hp) would be better (faster) for my car? I need your help quickly because my buddy smashed his car and his engine is up for sale. Thankx

JDM B16A2 is definately a faster motor, BUT if you're happy with the non-vtec of the LS, its probably more civil as an engine "torquier" at low revs and good for city driving.

BUT! If you're going for all out speed and love the sound of the VTEC switch over and pushing insane RPMs then get the JDM B16A2

how much doesn he want for it?

faster is definately what I want, he wants somewhere in the $1000 mark but that was when he was going to buy a civic, now he's buying an audi and has no use for it so i'm gonna try to push him for about $5-800. However it has no computer, I wonder how much that will cost?

Since you already have the LS motor, you might as well buy the head off your friend and put together an LS/VTEC. You get more power from that than just the B18 motor or B16 motors alone.

That's an awsome price for the B162 motor. Is that with tranny and stuff?

If you swap on the SIR head, and your LS is in good shape, then you shouild be ok. Get a block girdle if you are really concerned. Perhaps maybe you wanna BOOST?

Still an awsome deal. But since you already have an LS, paid the rediculous amount for custom mounts etc, you might as well just build a LS/Vtec with his SIR head, or boost your LS. I opt for boosting the LS.

I say if you're going for mad RPM's consider your friends B16A2 heavily. Boost or not, you'll have great fun pumping out the power from the B16A.

And for a $1000 that's an excellent deal, as the computer you'll probably want to get a chipped one anyways, plus the shiftlinkage you'll probably want a Teg GSR one too...so you don't really need the things you're missing currently

I say go for the B16A....

However, if you're serious about boosting, then you should build the LS/VTEC like everyone else here is suggesting, as you'll gain much more power from the 1800cc displacement Good luck! LS/VTEC won't blow up on you if you build it right But it will cost you a pretty penny to build it up properly

DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT do LS/VTEC especially with a b16a head, it's the worst of the b series heads for a LS/VTEC and it's going to cost you out of your *** to do it "properly." If this was to be a USDM b16 you would be exactly the same as far as speed goes b16a or b18b in a coupe, but since it's JDM and does have the 10 hp advantage I say go for it. Maybe even sell the motor for a profit of 2000-2500 and use that money to turbo your LS. So basically you will end up with a turbo charged LS for the price that you will pay for the b16 and you will be a LOT faster than any stock b series motor in your car.

Just my 2 cents.

You can get an Eagle Talon turbo running properly and DONE properly for approx. 2 grand. If you need somebody to do it i can give you more details, price is fair and work done is quality, has been proven time over time.

By the way, how do you like your LS, i also have an LS with GSR tranny, i love the mid range power, however wouldn't mind being able to rev higher. Anyway, have you taken your car to the track, if so what times did you pull?

2 grand that sound aight? Is it safe? How much time would I be able to knock off my 1/4 Mile? I never taken my car to the track yet because I did the swap late into last year and recently it's been in the shop for body work, however, my friend has a teg LS he runs 15.1 with slips to prove and I can take him everytime, so a little faster then that.
