I have a 96 hatch cx. The b16 I had blew up (there is a hole in the block behind the header). I am not a fan of just swapping in a used motor/tranny because every last one of them seem to have "40-60K". Someone has got to be lying.

On that note I was planning to build another motor. (my tranny and clutch are still good). My choices are:

B16a2
or
b20/b16head

I want give the block a mild rebuild nothing crazy expensive, this is more peace of mind than anything. my questions are:

What computer do use for the b20/b16?
Can I use my DC header on the b20 or will it hit the oil pan?
Doing the same amount of work, using almost the same internals and starting from scratch which one is more expensive to build and buy...(bottom end only--the top will be identical)?

you will need to convert to obd1 so you can use a p28 and get a custom chip made. Ditch the DC header, they're crap anyways...but you will still be able to use it.
All engines are expensive to build.

I know all engines are expensive, but will they be close in cost or doers one really differ?

nah, all aftermarket parts cost the same no matter what engine its for. I mean there might be a small difference, but in the end you will spend the same amount of money regardless if its a d-series, b-series or h-series.
