It only turns on when your engine reaches a specific temperature. And shuts off when the engine temp comes down again.

For a 1/2 size rad, the fan can go on in about 15 minutes in summer, ideling. In winter, it will take much longer.

my fan rarely comes on. Don't worry about it. As long as the temp gauge doesn't go high, its fine

Your fan is supposed to come on only when the coolant temp sensor hits a certain temp. If it's coming on the instant your provide ignition, you should check the fan relay and coolant temp sensor. In the winter when it's -25 out, the fan coming instantly is a bad thing.. It'll be screaming like you wouldn't believe.

yeah ..... or the prev owner might have wired it to come on all the time perhaps cuz something was broken. I'd def track down the problem.

RAD FAN MAINTAINS MAXIMUM OPERATING TEMP. COMES ON WHEN IT GETS TOO HOT IN ORDER TO COOL IT DOWN. THERMOSTAT MAINTAINS MINIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURE SO IF THE THERMOSTAT IS MISSING IT WILL NOT HEAT UP QUICK ENOUGH IN THE WINTER, AND COULD OVERHEAT. IF ITS HOOKED UP ALL THE TIME TO RUN IT PROBABLY HAD A THERMOSTAT PROBLEM.

Yeah mine comes on every 20mins or so and stays on for about a minute or two and turns off. I was told the radiator is from a automatic car and my car is manual. I dont think thats normal or is it?

automatic rads can be used in manual cars but manual rads cant be used in automatic cars if they are equipped with a transmission oil cooler cuz then you wont be able to hook up the lines...but since you have a 5spd its no matter
