RMF, SMSP, DTR, hytech....2.5"+ collector is an absolute MUST!!! same with 2.5" exhaust.
You will really see nice gains with a custom header like a RMF/DTR/SMSP but they're expensive and some don't have very good ground clearance.
I would stay away from the ractive/DC/headman crap.

and zeeman, would you recommend 4-1 OR 4-2-1 for a build like this?

4-2-1.....if you look at most of the high-end headers, like these custom RMF, SMSP, DTR, etc, etc they are of a 4-2-1 design.

Rage 4-2-1 is the best bootleg header for the price. $650US. its either an SMP or Hytech copy. they also come in big tube construction for high c.r./high revving 1.8's or 2L+ motors.

I have heard that b-series headers hang very low. Is this true? If this is true, which companies make b-series headers that have better clearance from the ground.

As others mentioned, decent 4-2-1 header with 2.5" outlet. I used to have 2.5" exhaust and now I am back down to 2.25" stock with crush bent. Felt lost of pick-up. Not dramatic, but enough to be noticed.

zeeman... not recommending these??? the design is incredible... they are a 4-2-1 with the pipes coming into 2 just after the bend... keeping some nice mid range, but having enough room for the top-end!!!

i was going that route, but boost is now my priority.

ya i am using the vibrant j-spec 4-2-1 w/2.5" collector. Its great and i got mine brand new for much less than $600.
Once i finally get my bigger bottom end finished i'll prolly spring for a better custom header. But on my b16 the vibrant j-spec 4-2-1 w/2.5" collector is way better than the DC 4-1 it replaced.
