koni Yellow, anyone have these?

I'm considering changing my shocks from Tokico Illumina to Koni Yellow's as they are supposed to be alittle firmer. I ues the Illumina's on 4 front and 5 rear (5 is max). Would it be worth the upgrade, considering cost are not an issue with them. I'm not interested in its not worth the extra money, yada yada...i just want to know, based on experience not opinion....would it be worth it, like any noticeable difference in handling.

for suspension, i'm running H&R sport springs, GSR front strut bar and 22mm CTR rear sway bar

The stiffest setting on Illuminas should be good enough. You're AutoX-ing right?

in the spring i'm going to be yes, i plan on going out quite a bit to improve driving and having a ****load of fun. my summer suspension is off the car for winter (only the front upper strut and rear CTR sway bar) is staying on for winter.

on a side note, auto-X is going to be hella fun with this CTR rear sway bar

switch to coilovers then if you want something stiffer. i have a spring/shock combo right now and even on max stiffness i don't think it's enough. i'll be switching over to adjustable coilovers next year.

no plans to switch to coil-overs, they are more expensive for quality and the only one even close to price point of Koni Yellows and H&R sports in Omni Power Coil-overs. I'd rather have the Illumina or Yellows with H&R sports.

coil-overs are also great for height adjustability, but i'm content with the H&R sports for height. i don't want to be "slammed" but lowered for some looks, but mostly better handling. 1.75/1.5 seems to be nice for daily driver so coil-overs would be useless to me except for the face the spring and shocks rates are matched, but its not worth the extra cash to me for that when yellows or illuminas will still give me great handling with a nice ride (H&R sports actually feel better then stock)

I got H&R sports and Yellows and they give an awsome ride. Almost better than stock. Ride hight and handling are perfect too. I have them at the firmest setting and they take coners like no other. If want improvement, good way to go.

I think posting here kinda answered my own question. I've decided to sell my Illuminas and buy up the yellows, its a win-win deal as yellows certainly won't be worse the illuminas. so i posted my illuminas in the FS thread and i'll be rockin yellows for late Feb when i lower the car again, weather permitting.

i believe the rear shocks need to be removed to be adjusted, but since i don't really adjust them once i've found the setting i like, thats not a big deal.

I would PM Astroboy for pricing; sometimes he has KILLER prices on Konis due to good exchange rates. Be careful with race springs on your EL...H&R's tuck on EK sedans and I believe Neuspeed are the same drop and similar spring rate.

i've only got the H&R sports, race is crazy low, sports are just about perfect at medium drop of 1.75/1.5, i wouldn't go any lower then sports.

ordered the yellows tonight, they'll be sitting in the garage all nice and shiny until late feb or early march when i go back to summer suspension. Looking to see if there is any real difference compared to the illuminas which were damn nice. i'm only expecting the yellows to be adjustable to firmer settings then illuminas.

I believe they have a few different perch height settings as well. So you can actually have a +/- an eigth or a quarter of an inch in your ride height. Not 100% sure on this though.

thanks for all the help, going completely different now with Koni Yellows and Ground-Control coils with 400F/350R to run with 22mm RSB. figured do it right, do it once and be done with it

SaYjAiBaO, you were right, coil-overs are the way to go for stiff or custom. Ground-Control/Koni allows total customization from re-valving at Koni to any spring rate you can imagine at GC, so i'm going this way now.

personally i have koni yellows on my eg hatch and i think that they are great. they have 16 different adjustable dampening setting personally think they are great. Good for conering, everyday driving etc.

overall i would give them a 8-9 out of 10

Koni's are probably one of the best mid range shocks out there!! But there warranty is gay

The last time I had a customer with a warranty issue we had to send the shock back, they told me to tell my customer to buy another Koni shock and they would re-imburse if they decided that your claim is valid.
