Ok how many people have ever ground a gear when shifting? If you caused any permenant damage please explain entire story. Example I was drag racing at Cayuga and ground a gear inturn blowing my motor.

Twice today in the new car. The tranny is pretty stiff until it warms up a a bit. A few grinds here and there won't cause any damage.

How can grinding the gears blow the motor? Missing a gear and over-reving, maybe, but grinding.

grinded first gear when i decided to see what it would be like to downshift 5-4-3-2-1....and first gear was very stiff to get into and then "horrible grinding sound"

no harm done

I drove my SiR for the final time yesterday. Just put it this way B16a2 5spds 1st and R gears can take a lot of abuse.

i cant even downshift into first unless i am going at a speed next to 0. i'm sure i can force it in, but why? i tried a little pressure at 10kms/hr but it doesnt go in until i am at a speed closer to 0k/hr.

i have grinded two times. but that was my fault for releasing clutch when i mis-shifted

there's a reason why it's so hard to shift into first. so people wont accidentally shift into first or something and blow their motors into pieces. i can shift into first at like 20km/h, give it some gas before you shift. i always rev match before i downshift, seems much smoother than just letting the clutch go but that could be my syncros worn down.

question, hypothetical: if i were racin or somethin, switch into 3rd gear, and its grinding, if im not quick enough to punch the clutch down again, and it just keeps griding, is that going to blow my motor?

think about it, why would it blow your motor? all it is, is that the gears aren't biting but are grinding. blowing your motor is like going 160km/h+ and you decide to downshift to 4th but mishift into second and send your rpms rocketing through the roof. that will blow your motor into pieces.

Everytime i shift second into third it grinds, but only happens if im above 4500rpm. Time to get a new tranny or syncros, dont know yet tho

You're not supposed to be able to down shift into first.

The tranny puts a lock on the gate to prevent you from down shifting into first. the only way to clear it without grinding is to double clutch.

Only if the fuel cut off is removed by chipping the ecu. Otherwise it would just bouce off the rev-limiter and NOT blow up.
There is no need to downshift into first. If your rolling at all just toss it in 2nd.
If your raggin on your car and you grind a gear don't just slam it into gear, put it in neutral, take your foot off the clutch and try shifting again.
