intake/crankcase breathers?

those little breathers that replace the tube goin fomr the head to the intake,...the ones you can get like a 500$ ticket for......." What does it do? The Breather Filter is a filter that vents the carbon fumes from the valve cover into the atmosphere and not into your intake system."
do they actually make a diff?

1. dont use em, you will get a $350 ticket if you get caught
2. they breath the "oily" air from the crankcase into the atmosphere, prevents gumming up of the throttle plate
3. in boosted/high HP cars they can prevent actual oil from entering the intake air
4. a charcol filtered catch can would be a cleaner more "legal" way to do it as the cops would just see hoses running to places in the engine rather than seeing a nice shiny breather
5. on a daily driven commuter car you wont notice a difference'

bottom line is, dont use em...u'll get busted and end up with a $350 ticket for a $5piece of hose missing and a $5breather instead

it's actually harmful tot he engine to remove since connecting to the intake allows a savenging effect to happen in the valve cover helping remove the fumes better....

yea...i beleive i got a ticket of 380.00 a few years back...cause the pcv pipe is being blocked. fumes need to be recycled and instead are being released into the atmopsphere, and usually the car willc lean those fumes, and let it out the exhast...dont do it...emmissions control police will **** your ***

i was thinkin IF i WAS gonna do it, connect the breather to a hose and hide it somewhere in the engine bay, not so obvious as right at the head, to avoid attn from the police

well, u can use them on older carbuerated cars...I had one on my 86 crx w/carbs and it was fully legal as that car didnt have a factor emmissions system on it , no cat or nuthin...old muscle cars use em along with hot rods...thats why they sell them...also u can use em on other things that dont affect emmisions but need to be filtered
