Home made

I was thinking about making my own sway/strut bar. Is there anything I should keep in mind while doing it? I have access to a welding shop with everything I would need. I was also thinking of making somehting like a traction bar. I Have an EG sedan.

To flex or not to flex?

I was just reading up on the bars. (top-front)Turns out I have one of the ones with the threaded ends (Got it with the car). I was thinking of welding a bar across onto some mounts. Should there be any flex or is completely stiff better?

the best bars are ones with no pivot points

I say buy both... in my experience, the materials and your time combined aren't worth it. By the time you get it all done, it'll look like **** and you'll prolly end up buying one anyways. You want to make a performance part for a Civic... that's laughable. It's not like a Renault Alliance or something... we HAVE the parts available, USE THEM!

foreal, you can buy civic strut bars for under 40$ they sell on ebay for 9.99us hahaha, ill bet you spend that much on materials, pluse headaches, plus it will look like bum, plus it will probably weigh allot more, and not function as well...

waste of time

and even the thought of makeing a swaybar makes me wonder if you have ever even seen one before, let alone know what its ment for, on top of makeing one!! Swaybars are precision tuning peices, even a few millimeters of thickness makes a diff in the way its going to affect the cars handeling.

If the strut bar is for a school project or something forsure go for it! but if your just looking for a cheap alternative, def not worth it...

I'm assuming he mixed up the meaning of a sway bar with something else. Cuz for that, you need special material not commonly available. It has to be spring-quality steel.

Thanks guys.

Ok, I was just wondering what u guys thought.. as for the sway bars.. I must have the wrong idea. I know what you're saying about looks/weight etc... but I don't wanna just go get everything available for my car. I want to know it and understand it before I put it on. I'm picky about how the car feels, so I want to set it up the way I like it, not just put stuff on cause people say it's good. As for knowlege.. I know lots, but I still have a lot to learn. Anyways... happy motoring :-)
