Gauge installation etc.

Alright, my 93 Civic hatch car from some Integra, and I do not trust the temp and volt gauge. I'm looking to get a couple to accompany those.

Where would I connect the Volt gauge? Directly to the battery, after the alternator? Just point me in the right direction, I can figure the rest out.

Same goes for the temp gauge. Would I hook this up before or after the thermostat or something? Are any additional sensors needed?

I was looking for a cheap set of three from crappy tire. Not looking to be riced out, just something for a means of more accurate readings.

I think the third was an oil pressure gauge. Is there some port to read the oil pressure? I believe I came across something to the likes of that while reading the manual.

Any pointers would be very helpful, thanks!

well first of all don't get the ones from canadian tire. get autometer ones or.... there are these new ones I think by borg-warner or something... Kieran has a set that he likes. or spend a lil more and get Greddy cuz they're tasty or Defi. Greddy and Defi you're looking at a range of $150-300 USD for each gauge. also do yourself a favour and get elec gauges, not mechanical ones. once purchased, they'll come with instructions that are pretty good and will lead you in the right direction.

Ah, I knew someone would recomend not to get them. I guess I should spend more, since I want accurate readings.

Wasn't sure if they came with instructions or not. Thanks!

yeah I installed a set of CT ones for someone here, but they were not even worth hooking up. the water temp is the same type of gauge that you would find inside your oven when cooking a roast. it's just the crappiest gauges ever. Autometer are really cheap on Summit Racing or maybe used from the classifieds and they are quite accurate.

The volt gauge you can just hook that up to a +12v that's turned on w/the ignition.

If you go w/elec gauges they will require a seperate sending unit for the temp and oil press. Unless the gauge comes with the correct sender.

Oil press sender you'll prolly have to buy a "tee" fitting to so you can use both stock oil switch and also the press sender.

Temp sender you could remove the stock unit and replace the aftermartket one there? Then the stock gauge shows nothing
On my B16 I drilled and tapped the rad hose outlet and installed my sender there. Some years have the coolant bleeder there however. Mine didn't.

I went with VDO 2 1/16 gauges cuz they have "no bling". Real plain looking and and clean. They're also the OEM for many Euro cars as well. Good enough for me! Also pretty easy on the wallet.
