Engine Swap Question

I was just wondering what would be cheaper, produce more HP, cheaper bolt-on's, keep in mind that I am not interested in producing a race car but a daily driver with some attitude.

1. B16A complete swap
2. Get a D16 engine and super/turbo charge

P.S. I have a D15 series engine and have a 5G hatch, so these are the options that I am looking at.

Well a D16 with a turbo or super won't really net you all that much in the way of gains because of the low amount of boost you run (with the turbo).

SilverBullet has a D16 I think and has his super'd.. I also believe he put on a 10lbs pulley on that setup as well but so far I haven't heard any dyno results from him.

I would get a JDM B16 and go from there.. It provides some decent bang for the buck right off the bat, its a nice high reving motor with VTEC and has decent power to fuel consumption for daily driving.

Ontop of that you can build the motor eventually and then go turbo (as I am doing).

Regards,
OK

I would agree the B16 is the best bang for the buck and gives you more room to play with where as you limiting your future expansion with the other option.

Sigh.... All you guys think that D series are garbage.. Sigh... Yes, they are small and don't produce as much as power as a built B series, but you're comparing oranges to watermelons....

Sure a B16 you're starting off with a better platform to build upon, but you're a few grands into the hole with a B series.. where as a D series w/ a turbo kit will leave you right around the price range of a B series swap, but you'll be on top with more power.

IMO... A D series with a turbo would be faster than just a regular B16. At least that's from experience.. So that's with a turbo.. not sure about supercharged.

Now.. Overkill mentioned SilverBullet's car.. I think a big factor for him might be his ecu.. if he hasn't changed that yet. That might be the major factor that's hindering his performance.. Perhaps he should consider changing the ecu.
