Engine swap question

My brother wrecked his car and now we have to replace his engine and tranny. It's a 96 honda si (it's actually an ex from US). I can get a JDM si engine and tranny for a fair price.
My question is:
Is it just a straight plug and play? We pull the old one and put the new one in?
Or do I need a different wiring, shifter cables, drive shafts, ECU?
What about AC and power steering?
Is there any difference between the two as far as the hp goes?

b16s should be plug and play

as for differences, too many to list...here's a couple

sohc-------dohc
127hp---- 170hp
slow-------fast

yes you would need a new ecu and ac/ps is possible

Actually, I forgot to mention that the engine is an equivalent to the EX in US. It's the JDM SOHC VTEC + tranny. I am sorry, in Canada the US SI = SIR and the US EX - SI.

From the info given i'm guessing it must be the JDM D15B SOHC VTEC. JDM EK3's had 'em. JDM EG8's and EG4's had 'em too. There is an OBD I version and an OBDII version. You want the OBDII since your '96 Si (US EX, whatever) is OBDII . Look for "D15B" stamped on the block.

of course you can convert the wiring, so getting OBDI is possible but you're looking at a few hundred $$$ to do a OBDII-to-OBDI conversion

Another thing, you will need the JDM D15B ecu to run this motor. Run any other ecu with this motor (and this includes the Si ecu you have right now) and it will run like crap. It has a 3 stage economy VTEC system not found in any other honda ecu/motor combo. The closest ecu would b the 6th gen VTEC-E ecu from the US-spec Hx but even that won't run it well.

it's been along day if i'mnot making an sense just say so.

Thanx Jugglez, that's the info I need.
Now, do you know if the engine and tranny mounts will line up?
What about shiter cables and drive shafts?
So basically, I don't need the harness, just the ECU, make sure it's OBDII and other than that it's all plug'n play?

everything will bolt up just fine

Just get your hands on the ECU and you should be set, but I didn't know that 96+ Civics in Japan used a cable clutch? I thought all Hondas used hydro

I was concerned about shifter cables, not the clutch. Isn't the clutch hydrolic?
