do slightly bent rims cause excessive tire wear?

Well..the question was in the subject heading. What's the answer? I've had people say yes and other say no.

a bent rim would make it very difficult to balance the tire 100%, which could results in uneven tire wear and shaking resulting back into the car (or if the tire is on the front, into the steering wheel).
