I was going to put in MY 2C's on this subject, but I have already done it COUNTLESS times before.

Oh what the hell.....

I've had both on my old Civic. (stock on the new one now)

Suspension Tecniques, and the Tom's Motorsport coilover ones. BOTH rode great.....but I also didn't go lower than 1.8", and I had GOOD shocks/struts.

All I'll say now, is it depends on the condition of your factory suspension, and how low you want to go.

On my old car, I NEVER had a problem with either set up.

All these poeple saying coilovers are crap....they ride like ****....they bounce....ect....ect...ect.......blah, blah, blah.......

I'm done here.

Just for fun, do a search on coilovers, and see how many threads you find.

ohhh yeah tell people how to overload the server you know how many threads would come up?

PULOVR I understand your point of view....

and hey if anyone is going for a show / looks car .... chase after PULOVR he knows his stuff...

however if you want a car that handles like a dream can take right hand turns at 60 km/h and stay in the proper lanes..... get a proper suspension setup and do some really careful planning ... (I'm in no way saying you don't plan carefully PULOVR) but what I am saying is understand how the suspension works .... learn the math behind it .... make the calculations and then get the parts you need shipped from the supplier...(or have an afiliate order from a supplier for you)

taking off the shelf parts is ok ..... if your on a budjet ...but remember ride hieght is not the most important factor in the world .... it solely does not determine performance....

I will openly admit ride height is a factor ... but so is dampening and rebound and sping rate and sway bar sizes and preloads and control arms and camber and castor and toe and tower brace sizes and shock valving and corner wieghing....

most of these will have a greater effect on handling then ride hieght...

and for the record I'm not saying any of your choices for coilovers are good or bad.... personally I might try Tom's but with switching the front and rear springs so that the higher rate is in the rear ... but thats just my choice....

the best way to get a good handling car is to try one thing at a time and test drive it.....

I already know all that J, but saying it over and over again on this forum is a waste of not only my time, but also everyone else's.

That's why I said to to a search on this subject. The server can EASILY handle the load.

Just to make it clear, my old car handled beautifully.....but it DIDN'T just involve installing springs...........nope, it took more than that. (yes, all the stuff you mentioned)

Surprised?

That's why your comment about..."if anyone is going for a show / looks car .... chase after PULOVR he knows his stuff", made me laugh a bit. You didn't even bother looking at the way my old car was setup when I used to own it.

It wasn't all show J........you just automatically assumed it was.

Alot of the work was already done to the suspension by the previous owner, before I even bought the car. I just kept it maintained. The guys at the performace shop used to love me.

Back on topic......what I'm saying is this.....MOST of the people that lower their rides, don't really care about the proper way of doing it....ie...corner weighing...ect... All they want is a lower than stock stance. They want a simply and affordable way to get rid of that ugly tire gap. In those cases, most of these people couldn't care less about corner weighing, spring loads, or total curb weights wth the driver in the car. (btw, did you do all this setup on your car with or without a full tank of gas? )

Anyways, like I was saying.....most people just want to lower thier rides a bit. Remember, these are also some of the same people that think that a Civic that has a drop 2.5" or more, is no problem for the stock suspension to handle....so why would they care about all that work, you said they should be doing?

See what I mean now?

BTW, if I remember correctly, someone once told me the Tom's rates were 350, and 450, but don't quote me on that.

As for the Suspension Techniques rates, you can find out the info on thier web site. I had around a 1.5 - 1.8 drop when they were on my old car. They only had 2 sets listed in thier catalog for the 5th gen Civics when I tried looking up the info; and the rates were not that different from what I remember, from one set to the next. This info might be wrong now.....it might have changed over the last few years.

And in the future, please don't judge a book by it's cover.

Peace.
