clutch recommendations

clutch recommendations

I have a 96 hatch with a lightly modified motor and a short throw shifter. a couple of days ago my clutch started to slip pretty bad...although its not anymore... any recomendations for a new clutch....and since I'm changing the clutch, changing the flywheel only makes sense...doesn't it?

ACT makes some decent clutch kits. i've run two of them with no issues. also make sure you change out the throw out bearing and pilot bearing in the flywheel while you are at it. you may even want to consider doing an lsd while the tranny is out too if you have the $.

save yourself some money and keep your flywheel, just get it machined.

Since your motor is pretty much stock I would go with an exedy organic clutch kit or a eurodrive. Both are stock like. I have an act hdss w/ a heavy duty pressure plate and i can't wait till i get stuck in traffic

I put a centerforce dual friction clutch in my 94 v6 cavalier and it was good while the motor was stock (160wtq) but when i put the turbo on her....well over 250ft-lbs to the wheels is a bit much for that clutch...lol.

For an almost stock civic, a centerforce would be ok, their prices are competitive too. I also agree with what they said above^^.

I run the basic ACT Street full organic disc with a heavy duty PP.. I didnt replace the throwout or pilot bearings.. Looked good after inspection, i didnt machine flywheel eaither. Just wipe it down with break clean. Been good thus far.. No slipping at the track with hook eaither!.

IMPORTANT!! Always TORQUE your pressureplatel bolts to 25ft/lbs (the 12point ones) and you must use RED loctite! Trust me on this one.. Ive had them back out on me, luckly i caught it!

I agree with the stock replacement, since the short shifter doesn't add that much horsepower, lol.

But disagree with machining the stock flywheel, I think its a waste of money.

I like a lightened flywheel but figure out the math. When you machine a stock one you go down form 18ish to 14ish and that will run around $100 or more from the average machine shop, plus the downtime. Or you can get the fidanza from ebay or any of their specials for a little over $200 and if you got a really big wallet go to JRP they sell aluminum flywheels for $300 daily. With an alumimum flywheel your going to 8-10ish pounds and are losing half the weight from stock. Plus people (I'm not one) seem to think that machining the stock one will cause reliability issues which would be worth spending the extra $$.
