new cell phone recommendations

i'm with rogers and i'm eligible for a hardware upgrade for a new phone. i've been satisfied with rogers and plan to stay with them. i've been with bell before and found their services isn't good and their reception expecially along the 401 and dvp sucks. don't want to switch to telus either.

anyways, i'm really disappointed with the available phones with rogers, but i was looking at the sony-ericsson w810i or the blackberry pearl. some of my friends have the moto razor, but complained how bad the battery was and how long it last especially with a bluetooth headset. so that's a no go. i have a nokia 3220 now and really like nokia phones especially for their ease of use, decent reception, decent speakerfone and reliability. it just that the latest crop of nokias are plain ugly and either flips or sliders.

i read some bad reviews of the pearl on cnet and howardforums and how troublesome and not-reliable they were. the 810 has better reviews but is an older phone, so i was wondering if any recommendations tcc'ers have. i already have a 8700r from work and don't really need another blackberry.

my preference is towards a candybar fone and not a flip or slider. added features like easy to use keys for texting, camera and mp3 player are bonuses that i like as well.

anyone owns a 810i or pearl out there? any recommendations out there? i'd like to stay around $100 (which means i also have to sign up for an addition 3 years...)

I was thinking about upgrading my cell alittle while ago.
So I went out and grabbed a new one.
Sales guy said it was top of the line.

Here's what I used to have.

And here is my new one.

It wasn't that bad was it?

I'm extremely bored here so for now it's the best I got.
I mean I haven't posted this many times on a forum in...over a year.

it really depends what you want

ease for typing/texting would definitely go to the pearl between the two phones

but if you're looking for a camera/mp3 phone that's good and more user friendly the w810 is better.

If you're looking for something that's just bling, pearl....if you're looking for somethign that can double as your personal agenda/organizer then go with pearl.

The battery life on the w810 is slightly better though i believe

i own a w810i and its doing quite well had the phone since may, when i got it though they gave me a free upgrade from a 1g mem to 4g so it worked out pretty good.

phone battery lasts about 5-6 days with regular usage and acts as a mp3 player at some odd times. but over all im satisfied.

charge speed of the phone is fast takes maybe 1.5 hours or a little bit more to get a full charge.

helpful enough?

i don't think the n95 is available in canada, but it is quite expensive. all i really need it a basic phone wth some nice features. i've got a decent blackberry from work already but would like to keep my personal phone for privacy

so far 2 votes for the 810...

yes i would recommend w810 for sure, its a great personal phone. with walkman, 4 gig memory (external) and if you can unlock it and hack it up it can be a great phone, mp3 ring tones, 2mega pixel camera, lots of different camera settings, organizers, flash menus, flash themes, and lots more.

if you end up getting the w810 you might also want to look in to SONY DRM if you want to get mp3 ringtones for free. (this is if you dont get your phone unlocked)

when i got my hardware upgrade i got the phone for $50 and they were suppose to charge me 70 more dollars for random services but i fought it off, but that took a while on the phone with stubborn rogers people

dont need any of that DRM stuff, just use FAR manager or XS++........but only if you know what you are doing, you can brick your phone for good.
