Clutch question

Just wondering,

How often would you need to change your clutch under normal wear and tear situations....say, a 96 with 210000km's, and a 98 with 190000km's

Thanks.

depends how you use it... If used properly, like never ride it, alway into neuteral at stop lights... then it should out last the engine...

A properly used clutch should be good for like 350-400K kms, but most ppl don't know how to use a clutch. You shopping for a car? Oh yeah, and there is really no way to tell how much life is left in it unless it's already slipping.

I know of many cases where the clutch didn't even last 100K kms, so it depends.

No, i was just wondering because the dealership I took my car in to get servicing said that I may need to replace my clutch soon...so i was just wondering when is it 'normal' to have it replaced?

i bought my car with 185 000kms... and the clutch wasn't the greatest... but it went till 255 000kms at which point the release bearing seized or something catastophic (sp) and the clutch wouldn't lift off the flywheel... it was clutch less driving minus the sequential gear box

there is no way for them to tell... it's absolute bullshit, and if it does happen to fail completely, it's by coincidence, not becuase they "predicted" it. Depends on how you've treated the car, and what mileage you are looking at, but we had a 350,000kms Civic, and when we replaced the clutch after those 350K kms, it was still the original clutch in there.

LOL, Punk, that's cuz they got no torque, so it's hard to burn out the clutch when your motor makes like 80 lb-ft
