ITR clutch w/LW flywheel VS Exedy racing clutch w/resurfaced OEM flywheel
sup guys..
I've decided to upgrade my clutch/flywheel before I move out for school(and 'til i boost) and it's starting to slip... i need something that can take some beating and last at least 2 years... but I'm on a budget so I came up with these combination:
----->>what I have now: B16A, GSR tranny w/LSD(OEM SiR clutch)
--ITR clutch DISC w/whatever brand LW flywheel(10.5~11.5lbs ish) <----- is this even a good idea?
OR
--Exedy racing clutch(organic) kit w/resurfaced factory B16 flywheel
what would you guys do? anyone with experience?
please help me make up my mind!!
PS. please no SAVE-UP-AND-GET-BOTH's!!

I just installed an Exedy and a ITR Flywheel lightened to 11lbs.
I am really impressed. Haven't pounded it yet cause I'm still in a "short" break-in.
The clutch feels nice and solid. Pedal feel is a little stiffer than stock but I've already got used to that.
I was thinking of the same setup as you but I manage to get my Exedy for cheaper than a new ITR Clutch Set. I also liked the fact that the Exedy came with both new bearings...so now everything is smooth and nice. Even engagement is really smooth and no chatter what so ever.
Two thumbs up.

I was going to go the itr clutch route aswell but I might change my mind now seeing as you have noticed no real adverse effects of the exedy and seeing as I'll be in Miami in a month.
*** imports free delivery her I come.
I've got some question for you dan so I think I'll just pm you.
Anyone running an act clutch set up?? How is it?? Are they truely sstreetable?

Yeah - well I'm just home for lunch now and one the way home was the first time I beat on the new clutch.
It holds strong but what impressed me is that is it not grabby at all. I have driven some clutches that are kinda harsh but this one is really smooth. High RPM shifts are really nice with no hesitation.
Not bad for $400 I'd say.

so... maybe i should get a good clutch(Exedy) and just lighten the flywheel to 13lbs ish... good choice?
oh and where did u get your flywheel lightened? how much?
i'm not too sure if it's gonna be safe to lighten the factory flywheel...

I had my flywheel lightened and balanced by Leitner Performance - yes one of our affiliates. Mine was lightened to exactly 11lbs. My stock flywheel is sitting here at 17.5lbs
To tell you the truth the weight difference does not seem to have made a huge difference in drivability...but my butt dyno may be a bit off right now cause it is recalabrating to a clutch, flywheel and LSD so it is a little confused.

since i'm living 3 hours away from Toronto, i don't think i can make it down there anytime before May...
only ONE machine shop is available where i live(gotta drive 30 minutes tho:fustrated )...
is there a reason why you used ITR flywheel?(beefier?obvious?)
or am I OK to lighten B16 flywheel to 13lbs ish?
i'm worried about the flywheel shattering/heat/warping the flywheel, etc,etc after lightened...
sorry for all the Q's but I have no one to ask...
Thanks a bunch for your help...

I wouldn't trust any machine shop to do it... I mean it's not rocket sceince but I trust experience...
And hey man - 3 hours is nothing. Come to the "big smoke" on a wednesday. First stop - Leitner Performance. Take 3 minutes out of your day and trade in a flywheel core for a perfectly lightened OEM flywheel. Then head over to the meet and meet some other civic owners... no problem
Another option is I may be able to help you with a core if needed - I have my stock B16 sitting on my desk beside me so...
