chipping ecu

When people chip a p28 si vtec ecu for a dohc setup, what exactly do they change on the ecu to allow for a dohc setup

they add an external ROM (chip) with the dohc vtec program on it, along with a few capacitors and resistors and another small chip.
You can basically run any setup FI or N/A with a chipped ecu. Its a great way to tune your car, provided you make a custom program using a wideband o2 and possibly a dyno. And its much much cheaper than a standalone setup or even hondata. Although, hondata is just basically a chipped ecu with their blue box, which costs a lot compared to just chipping the ecu and running a custom made program in crome or uberdata.

you can....but its not what i would do. The p28 maps are too lean on even just a b16.

either get the proper ecu or get that basemap burned onto your obd1 ecu. I remember I thought I could use the basemap from a d16z6 on my d16y8 untill Nick at Teknotik showed me the two different maps.. a used ecu nowadays you can find for $100.. so why not buy one if your going to do a swap anyways?
